The Santa Rosa Church (Dutch: Sint Rosakerk) is a Roman Catholic church located in Paramaribo, Suriname. The current church dates from 1911, and is the second largest church in Paramaribo. [3] It is located in the centre of the city and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. [4]
In the middle of the 19th century there was a large increase in the number of Catholics in Suriname. [5] In 1861, the building of Loge Concordia of the freemasons was purchased, and turned into a church. [6] The church was dedicated to Rose of Lima. [7]
In 1911, a larger church was built with two towers, [3] and consecrated on 28 June 1911. [8] It is a deep church with a small square in front. The building consists of a high central nave with a flat ceiling, and two side naves, and is painted in the same colour scheme as the Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral. [3]
The organ of the Rosa Church was built by Jos H. Vermeulen and dates from 1929. [9] : 27 There are two bells in the left tower. [9] : 29 In 1946, the Rosa Church was hit by lightning which caused a hole of several metres in the tower. [10] In 2009, the Mary statue of the clergy house of the Anthony the Great Church in The Hague was donated to the Rosa Church and placed in an artificial cave in front of the church. [11]
In 2020, a restoration of the Rosa Church started, because the building suffered from leakage and barklice. In May 2021, during the restoration, both towers were struck by lightning and damaged. [4]
The clergy house is in use by the boy scouts, [4] and the church is also used as a concert hall. [1]

Paramaribo has a population of roughly 241,000 people, almost half of Suriname's population. The historic inner city of Paramaribo has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002.
St. Rumbold's Cathedral is the Roman Catholic metropolitan archiepiscopal cathedral in Mechelen, Belgium, dedicated to Saint Rumbold, Christian missionary and martyr who founded an abbey nearby. His remains are rumoured to be buried inside the cathedral. State-of-the-art examination of the relics honoured as Saint Rumbold's and kept in a shrine in the retro-choir, showed a life span of about 40 years and a death date between 580 and 655, while tradition had claimed 775 AD.
Meerzorg is a town and resort (municipality) in Suriname, located on the eastern bank of the Suriname River, directly opposite the capital Paramaribo. Its population at the 2012 census was 12,405. Since 2000 it has been connected to Paramaribo by the Jules Wijdenbosch Bridge, named after the former President Jules Wijdenbosch.
Jules Sedney was a Surinamese politician, and Prime Minister of Suriname from 20 November 1969 to 24 December 1973. In 1980, he became governor of the Central Bank of Suriname, but had to flee the country in 1983 after a dispute with Dési Bouterse. Sedney returned to Suriname in 1989.
Brabantine Gothic, occasionally called Brabantian Gothic, is a significant variant of Gothic architecture that is typical for the Low Countries. It surfaced in the first half of the 14th century at St. Rumbold's Cathedral in the city of Mechelen.
Jean d'Oisy (1310–1377) was the architect of several ecclesiastical buildings in Brabantine Gothic style. He was one of the earliest introducers of northern French Gothic style into the Low Countries and a teacher of the reputed Brabantian architect Jacob van Thienen.

Brazil has an embassy in Paramaribo since the independence of Suriname on 25 November 1975. Suriname has an embassy in Brasília since 1976, and a consulate in Belém since 2012.
The St. Peter in Chains Church is a church in Neo-Gothic style with a rich Baroque interior located at the Market Square in Beringen, Belgium. It is the parish church of Beringen centre and the decanal church of the deanery of Beringen. The chancel, nave and transept are protected since 1949 and the neo-Gothic parts since 1993.
The Heuvelse kerk is a neo-Gothic Catholic church in the center of the Dutch city Tilburg. Dedicated to Saint Joseph, it is one of two major Catholic churches in the city center together with the Heikese kerk. It is located along the square Heuvel, after which it is named. A 1921 statue of the Sacred Heart is located in front of the building.
Henry Roëll Neijhorst is a Surinamese economist who served as Prime Minister of Suriname from 31 March to 9 December 1982. He also served as Minister of Finance from 15 March to 15 August 1980.
Biezenmortel is a village in the municipality Tilburg in the Dutch province North Brabant. The village had 1,465 inhabitants and 470 households in January 2020. Biezenmortel has a primary school called Franciscus and a community center called De Vorselaer. Centrally located in the village, there is a former Capuchin monastery called Beukenhof, that now serves as a group accommodation. The Sint Josephkerk, which was located inside the monastery, closed down in 2019.
The Big Arsenal, in Dutch: Groot Tuighuis, in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, is also known as Old St. James Church, or Oude Sint Jacobskerk. It is the former location of the Noordbrabants Museum. It now houses the municipal heritage department and its storage. It is open to visitors four days a week.

The Centrumkerk is a monument, and an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The building is octagonal without a church tower.
Johannes Helstone, born Nicodemus Johannes Helstone, was a Surinamese composer, pianist and writer. He is best known for his 1906 opera Het Pand der Goden.
David George Findlay was a Surinamese politician, editor, and writer. He was the owner and chief editor of the newspaper De West.
The Paramaribo Zoo is the only zoo in Suriname. The zoo opened in May 1972, and was an initiative of prime-minister Jopie Pengel. It is located adjacent to the Cultuurtuin in Rainville, Paramaribo.
Thalia Theatre is a theatre in Paramaribo, Suriname. The theatre opened on 20 January 1840.
Diplomatic relations between Cuba and Suriname were established on 23 March 1979. Suriname has an embassy in Havana since 2003. Cuba has an embassy in Paramaribo since 1981.
Ronald "Rudi" Elwin Kappel was a Surinamese pilot. He was one of the founders of Luchtvaartbedrijf Kappel-Van Eyck which is now called Surinam Airways, the first airline in Suriname. He also helped construct the Zorg en Hoop Airport, and the Rudi Kappel Airstrip. Kappel died in an air crash near Paloemeu.
