Santiago Escobar Saldarriaga (born 13 January 1964) is a Colombian football manager and former player who played as a defensive midfielder. He is the current manager of Ecuadorian club Aucas.

Club career

Born in Medellín, Escobar played football for Atlético Nacional, Deportivo Pereira, América de Cali, Sporting de Barranquilla, Junior de Barranquilla, Millonarios and Deportes Quindío. [1] He also appeared for the Olympic team.

Coaching career

Following his retirement from football, he became a football manager; he is known for leading Atlético Nacional to win the 2005 and 2011 Categoría Primera A. [2] He also won the 2010 Copa Aerosur with Club Bolívar.

Personal life

Escobar is the brother of the late footballer Andrés Escobar. [3]

The 2020 Copa Colombia, officially the 2020 Copa BetPlay Dimayor for sponsorship reasons, was the 18th edition of the Copa Colombia, the national cup competition for clubs of DIMAYOR. The tournament was contested by 36 teams and began on 19 February 2020. It concluded on 11 February 2021, with the champions qualifying for the 2022 Copa Sudamericana. Independiente Medellín were the defending champions and successfully defended their title by beating Deportes Tolima 5–4 on penalties in the final after tying 1–1 over 90 minutes.

The 2022 Categoría Primera A season was the 75th season of the Categoría Primera A, Colombia's top-flight football league. The season began on 20 January and ended on 7 December 2022. Deportivo Cali were the defending champions, having won the 2021 Finalización tournament.
