Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani (born 19 February 1970) [1] is the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs in Qatar. [2] [3]
He is a senior government official,and former Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee. He also served as Qatar’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany. [2]
Born in Doha,he completed an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering at New Mexico State University in 1993 before going on to gain a Master's Degree in Sports Management from the University of Lyon. He served in the Qatar Armed Forces before becoming involved in national level sports administration positions. [4]
His first major organizational projects came as Director General of the committees for the 17th Arabian Gulf Cup and the 2005 West Asian Games,as well as being a committee member for the 2006 Asian Games. [4] He served as the Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee,President of the Qatar Basketball Federation and Vice-President of the International Fencing Federation (FIE). [5]
Sheikh Saoud played a major role in the winning of bids for Qatar's first international level sports competitions including the 2014 FINA World Swimming Championships (25 m), [6] the 2015 World Men's Handball Championship,2016 UCI Road World Championships, [7] 2018 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships and the 2019 World Championships in Athletics (being the bid leader for the latter). [8] [9] These projects formed part of the Qatar National Vision 2030,a long-term government plan to develop the nation's economic and cultural wealth. [5] [10]
He also promotes the participation of Qatari women in sports,noting the increased investment in women's sports in the country and participation of its female athletes at the 2011 Pan Arab Games and 2012 London Olympics.
He is a sport’s enthusiast and is particularly interested in tennis,shooting sports,soccer and swimming.
He Served as Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee from 2002 –2015. [11] [12]
In 2017,he was appointed Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Federal Republic of Germany and Non-resident Ambassador to the Czech Republic (2017-2019). [13]
As Ambassador of Qatar to Germany he had many significant achievements,notably the opening of the Arab Cultural House “Al Diwan”in Berlin,a cultural house aimed at strengthening German and Arab cultural relations. The Embassy of the State of Qatar restored and rehabilitated the building to preserve its historical character and transformed it into an Arab cultural house. "Al Diwan" holds significant importance as the first Qatari cultural center outside the State of Qatar. Its opening marked a new chapter in Qatari-German cultural relations. [14]
In 2020,he was appointed Chief of the Amiri Diwan on October 27,2020 by the Amiri Order (5) of 2020. [15]
Since 12 November 2024,Al Thani has served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs. [16] [17]
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Hamad bin Abdullah bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani is a member of the ruling Al Thani Qatari royal family. He was the ruling Emir of Qatar from 1995 until 2013 when he abdicated the throne,handing power to his fourth son Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani who was born to his second spouse,Moza bint Nassir. The Qatari government refers to him as the Father Emir.

Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani,also known as "The Founder",was the founder of the State of Qatar. He had a total of 56 children,19 sons and 37 daughters.
Abdullah bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani,also known as Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani or Sheikh Abdullah bin Qassim Al Thani,was the Emir of Qatar. He was born in 1880 in Doha,the capital city of Qatar. He then abdicated in favour of his crown prince and second son,Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani,in 1940. Sheikh Hamad died eight years later and Sheikh Abdullah assumed office once again until 1949,when he stepped down from office in favour for his eldest son,Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al Thani. Oil was also discovered for the first time during his rule.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Thani,also known as Mohammed bin Thani bin Mohammed Al Thamir,was the first Hakim (ruler) of the whole Qatari Peninsula,officially being recognized by the British in September 1868 following a meeting with British representative Lewis Pelly. He is known for being the father of Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani,the founder of Qatar and who fended off the Ottoman army in the late 19th century.
Sheikh Ahmad bin Ali bin Abdullah bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani was the Emir of Qatar who ruled from 1960 to 1972. Qatar's financial status witnessed significant improvements during his reign as a result of the enrichment and discovery of several new oil fields. Qatar also gained its independence as a sovereign state in September 1971 under his rule. He was deposed in February 1972 by his cousin,Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani.
Qatar was a British protectorate from 1916 till it gained independence on 3 September 1971. Until 1950,the country's postal service was administered by an Indian post office in Bahrain. A British office was opened in Doha and sold stamps of British Postal Agencies in Eastern Arabia until 1957 when overprinted British stamps were introduced. Qatar Post took responsibility for postal administration in May 1963 and joined the Universal Postal Union in January 1969. The first Qatari stamps were issued in 1961 and there was an independence issue in January 1972. Since then,Qatar Post has continued to manage the country's postal administration and to issue its stamps,which are mostly relevant to Qatar itself.

She was listed in the 'Top 100 most powerful Arabs' from 2014 to 2017 and 2021 by Gulf Business. Al-Mayassa serves as Chairperson of Qatar Museums,and it was reported by Bloomberg that her annual acquisition budget on behalf of the organization is estimated at $1 billion.
Qatar Museums was founded in 2005 and is a Qatari government entity that oversees the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA),Mathaf:Arab Museum of Modern Art,MIA Park,QM Gallery at the Katara Cultural Village,ALRIWAQ DOHA Exhibition Space,the Al Zubarah World Heritage Site Visitor Centre,and archaeological projects throughout Qatar,as well as the development of future projects and museums that will highlight its collections across multiple areas of activity including Orientalist art,photography,sports,children's education,and wildlife conservation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the ministry responsible for handling Qatar's external relations as well as its diplomatic efforts,including the maintenance of its diplomatic missions across the globe. The current minister is Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

For example,during the third edition,in November 2014,Hassan Al Thawadi repeated that Qatar "can organize the World Cup in summer".
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Thani,known as Moe Al Thani,is a Qatari-Emirati sheikh,philanthropist and sportsman. He is the first Qatari to have climbed Mount Everest and the Seven Summits,the South Pole as well as Ama Dablam and also the president of the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim bin Jabr Al Thani is a Qatari diplomat,economist,and politician who has been serving as the Prime Minister of Qatar since 7 March 2023 and Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2016. He has also been serving as Chairman of the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) since 2014,and is a member of Qatar's Supreme Council for Economic Affairs and Investments (SCEAI) since 2014.

Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani is a Qatari royal and the first wife and consort of Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani,the Emir of Qatar. A member of the Qatari royal family by birth,she is the daughter of former government minister Sheikh Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani and a grandniece of Emir Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani. She is a second cousin of her husband. As the first wife of the Emir,she accompanied him on an official state visit to Spain in 2022,where she was presented with the Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic by King Felipe,and to the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla in 2023.
Abdulrahman bin Hamad bin Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani is the Qatari Minister of Culture. He was appointed as minister on 19 October 2021.
