Sarah Lianne Lewis (born 1988) is a Welsh composer.

She was commissioned by Heidelberg Music Festival in 2016 and her piece, "I Dared Say It To The Sky", was premiered by soprano, Sarah Maria Sun, and percussionist, Johannes Fischer. [1]

Her piece, "Is there no seeker of dreams that were?", was premiered by BBC National Orchestra of Wales in 2016. Its title is inspired by Cale Young Rice’s poem ‘New Dreams for Old’ [2] and was subsequently performed again by the orchestra in 2018, conducted by Jac van Steen at Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff, [3] and again in 2019 as part of the orchestra's 'BBC Hoddinott Hall @ 10' celebrations, conducted by Holly Mathieson. [4]

In 2018 Lewis was awarded the George Butterworth prize for her work "Blossoms in bloom are also falling blossoms" which was composed through Sound and Music’s Embedded: Composer's Kitchen project with Canadian string quartet Quatuor Bozzini [5]

In 2020, she became the first Composer Affiliate with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. [6]

The Fantasia on Welsh Nursery Tunes is a composition for symphonic orchestra, based on traditional Welsh nursery tunes and lullabies, composed by Grace Williams in 1940. Although not typical of Williams' work it brought her to prominence and is the composer's most popular work.

I had a thorough grounding in Welsh airs and Welsh folk songs when I was a child and teenager, and they found their way into some very early works, now withdrawn, and of course into the Fantasia.

Last Man Standing is a song cycle for baritone and orchestra written in 2018 by the British composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad and set to a text by Tamsin Collison. The work was commissioned by BBC Radio 3 and was first performed by the baritone Marcus Farnsworth and the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Martyn Brabbins at the Barbican Centre on 30 November 2018.
