Sarah Rawls

Sarah Rawls was one of the first Black celebrity chefs. [1] Rawls was an accomplished restaurateur, with several successful establishments starting in the Bay Area in the 1970s. [2] Host of the television series Down Home Cooking, Rawls expanded the reach of her show to syndication in 26 cities in 1981. [3] The cooking show featured guest appearances by the likes of Andrae Crouch and Richard Kline. In addition to making commercials for Ac'cent seasoning (one alongside Sammy Davis Jr.), [4] she was the author of Sarah Rawls' Down to Earth Cook Book, Down Home Recipes: Sarah Rawls' Family-pleasing Meals and Talkin 'Turkey.

Yan Can Cook is a Chinese-oriented cooking show starring Chef Martin Yan that featured recipes for stir fried foods and an assortment of various other traditional Chinese meals and cooking techniques. The series originated in Calgary, Alberta, Canada (CFAC-TV) from 1978 to 1982 as a daily syndicated cooking show, Yan Can, for 250 episodes until Yan moved to San Francisco, California, United States in 1982 starting Yan Can Cook on PBS (KQED). Yan also wrote several cookbooks which serve as companions to these various television series.

Phila Hach — pronounced "File-ah Hah" was an American chef, restaurant owner, innkeeper, and caterer who authored 17 cookbooks, including recipe collections for the 1982 World's Fair, Opryland USA and Cracker Barrel restaurants. She has been called the "grand dame of southern cooking" and counted as good friends Duncan Hines and Julia Child. Hach catered functions for the United Nations, U.S. mayors and governors, military personnel and celebrities, and was one of the pastry chefs at the wedding of Princess Diana.

Julia is an American comedy drama television series created by Daniel Goldfarb that premiered on HBO Max on March 31, 2022. In May 2022, the series was renewed for a second season, which premiered on November 16, 2023. In January 2024, the series was canceled after two seasons.

Sarah Kirnon is a West Indian chef. Kirnon owned and operated Miss Ollie's, an Afro-Caribbean restaurant in Oakland, California, from 2012 until 2019, when she announced she would close the restaurant to reopen the space as a non-profit incubator for Black chefs, artists, musicians and other creators.

The James Beard Foundation Awards are annual awards presented by the James Beard Foundation to recognize culinary professionals in the United States. The awards recognize chefs, restaurateurs, authors and journalists each year, and are generally scheduled around James Beard's May birthday.
