Sarnelli House Thailand

Sarnelli House Thailand is a charitable institution providing medical help and shelter for children affected by HIV/AIDS, as well as orphaned, abandoned and abused children. It is in Nong Khai (northeast Thailand). It was founded by the Redemptorist Roman Catholic Father Michael Shea in 1999. Blessed Gennaro Sarnelli was an early Redemptorist priest, who ministered to young people on the streets of Naples, Italy.

Sarnelli House, considered as hospice and refuge, was initially built by donations from the Redemptorist's Priests Foundation of Thailand. [1]

The Center in Thailand is sponsored by churches, the Thai Children's Trust, [2] and private individuals from Germany, USA, Ireland, Canada, Australia, partly from Thailand. Yearly expenses on food, medicine, education, salaries and utilities are about US$600,000.

The present state of Sarnelli House Thailand allows to accommodate about 150 children, who stay there until completing their education.

Clement Mary Hofbauer was a Moravian hermit and later a priest of the Redemptorist congregation. Petrus Norbertus Donders was a Dutch Roman Catholic priest and member of the Redemptorist Congregation. He served in various missions in the Dutch colony of Surinam. He started working in the capital Paramaribo, but is predominantly known for his work in and around the leper colony Batavia, where he died in 1887. Peter Donders was beatified as 'Apostle of the Indians and Lepers' in 1982. The miracle needed was found in the cure of a Dutch child from bone cancer back in 1929.

Gennaro Maria Sarnelli was an Italian Roman Catholic priest and a professed member from the Redemptorists. Sarnelli was one of Alphonsus Maria de' Liguori's earliest companions and a prolific writer on a range of religious topics. He wanted to become a Jesuit though was dissuaded from this before working in the Hospital of the Incurables where he call to the priesthood blossomed. His apostolic zeal knew no limits: he preached missions and aided his friend Liguori in his work; he tended to the sick and helped to get girls out of prostitution despite the threats levelled against him.

The Thai Children's Trust, formerly Pattaya Orphanage Trust, is a registered charitable organization in the United Kingdom which supports vulnerable and disadvantaged children in Thailand. It helps fund projects for orphans, refugee children, HIV positive children and children with AIDS, homeless children, tsunami orphans and children and young people with disabilities. The Trust has recently helped support the Teacher Preparation Center, a training school for mobile teacher trainers, in Mae Sot. The TPC trains trainers who work in the Eastern states of Burma/Myanmar, trying to restore and improve educational standards in areas ravaged by years of civil war. The Trust has also found some funding for villageONE, a project combining education and community development which hopes to start work in Mon State, Burma/Myanmar, later this year.
