Saskia Slegers (born c. 1962) [1] is a Dutch DJ and producer who has run the influential music label Djax since 1989. She deejays dance music as Miss Djax.
Based in Eindhoven, Slegers started to DJ, make and release dance music in the 1980s. She set up the label Djax in 1989, investing 10,000 guilders. Her first release of 1,000 records sold out in a week, so she pressed up more copies and immediately recouped her start up costs. Looking back in 2009, she said "It was a question of the right time, the right decision and the right product". [2] Another early success was signing the Amsterdam hiphop group Osdorp Posse in 1991. [2] In the early 1990s, Slegers started to put on techno parties at the Effenaar in Eindhoven. [3] As well as techno and hip hop, Slegers made and released breakcore. [4] She was voted Best DJ by the German magazine Frontpage in 1992. [5]
Slegers' record label Djax and its subsidiaries played a large role in introducing Chicago-style techno to the Netherlands and promoting it around the world. [3] It has released artists such as Armando, Robert Armani and Mike Dearborn. [6] After ten years, she produced a book entitled 1989 – 1999 Djax Records. To celebrate thirty years of the label, Slegers organised a twelve-hour party at Elementenstraat in Amsterdam in late 2019. [6] The label has over 400 releases. [7]
The Netherlands has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 63 times since making its debut as one of the seven countries at the first contest in 1956. The country has missed only four contests, twice because the dates coincided with Remembrance of the Dead and twice because of being relegated due to poor results the previous year. The Netherlands hosted the contest in Hilversum (1958), Amsterdam (1970), twice in The Hague and Rotterdam (2021).
The Osdorp Posse, founded in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 1989, was one of the first groups to make rap music in Dutch. All four members are related to each other. Influenced by gangsta rap, they made a name for themselves by combining the music of hardcore hip hop with Dutch lyrics featuring literal translations of American slang. Initially appreciated only in the Dutch underground scene, they achieved commercial success and exerted great influence on the Dutch hip hop scene.
Cees Nooteboom is a Dutch novelist, poet and journalist. After the attention received by his novel Rituelen, which received the Pegasus Prize, it was the first of his novels to be translated into an English edition, published in 1983 by Louisiana State University Press of the United States. LSU Press published his first two novels in English in the following years, as well as other works through 1990. Harcourt and Grove Press have since published some of his works in English.

The Effenaar is a music venue in the centre of Eindhoven, the Netherlands. It was squatted in 1971 and has grown into one of the largest pop venues in the country, hosting rock, pop and techno events. The current Effenaar consists of two music halls after being renovated between 2002 and 2005. The large hall has an audience capacity of 1300, is intended for use by larger bands and acts and is considerably larger than the original hall. The small hall has a capacity of 400 and is used for smaller and/or regional bands.
Renée Josiena Anna Slegers is a Dutch football coach and former international midfielder. As a player she represented Willem II, as well as Swedish Damallsvenskan clubs Djurgårdens IF and Linköpings FC. She won 55 caps for the Netherlands women's national football team and appeared at UEFA Women's Euro 2013. Slegers has served as assistant coach of Arsenal since September 2023.

Van de Beatz has helped launch the careers of many artists under his label, as well as his frequent collaborator Ronnie Flex and DJ trio Yellow Claw. Since 2013, van de Beatz has transitioned from mainly producing Dutch hip hop songs to releasing electronic music as a lead artist – he has released two EPs under the American dance label Mad Decent.

We Are Here is a collective of migrants based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, which campaigns for human rights for its members and all undocumented migrants. The asylum seekers have in many cases had their applications to remain in the Netherlands denied but they either cannot go back or refuse to return to their country of origin. They demand access to social services such as medical care and housing. The group formed in 2012 and by 2015 contained over 200 migrants from around 15 countries.

Saskia Holleman was a Dutch actress, lawyer and model. She became widely known in the Netherlands when a picture in which she was naked in a meadow was used by the left-wing, pacifist political party Pacifist Socialist Party for its electoral campaign during the 1971 Dutch general election. Holleman trained as a lawyer in the 1970s and she specialised in petty crime for law firms and later as an independent.
