Saskia Natacia Walden (born 6 July 1974) is a Surinamese accountant and educator. She served as Minister of Economic Affairs from 16 July 2020 to 18 April 2022.
Walden was born on 6 July 1974. [1] In 1999,she obtained her bachelor's degree in accountancy from the Port of Spain campus of the Andrews University. In 2011,she obtained a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas. [2] [1]
Walden started her career as a mathematics and accounting teacher. Later,she became a corporate accountant,and worked for the Surinamese Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education. [3] In 2014,she became the Secretary of the Surinamese Checkers Union. [4] In 2020,she was working for the Surinamese insurance company Assuria,and was nominated by the Progressive Reform Party (VHP). [5]
On 16 July 2020,Walden was appointed as Minister of Economic Affairs,Entrepreneurship,and Technological Innovation in the cabinet of Chan Santokhi. [6] In October 2021,it was revealed that she was still the owner of nine corporations and foundations. [7] In her defence,Walden stated that she had performed no activities since her appointment, [8] and that ownership is not forbidden according to the Constitution of Suriname. [9]
Walden resigned as minister on 18 April 2022, [10] but indicated that she would remain available for future service. [11]
The president of the Republic of Suriname is,in accordance with the Constitution of 1987,the head of state and head of government of Suriname,and commander-in-chief of the Suriname National Army (SNL). The president also appoints a cabinet.
Jagernath Lachmon,also Jaggernath Lachmon,was a Surinamese politician. He was one of the founders of the Progressive Reform Party (VHP),an Indo-Surinamese party founded in 1947 of which he served as President until his death.

Jules Sedney was a Surinamese politician,and Prime Minister of Suriname from 20 November 1969 to 24 December 1973. In 1980,he became governor of the Central Bank of Suriname,but had to flee the country in 1983 after a dispute with Dési Bouterse. Sedney returned to Suriname in 1989.

Chandrikapersad "Chan" Santokhi is a Surinamese politician and former police officer who is the 9th president of Suriname,since 2020. After winning the 2020 elections,Santokhi was the sole nominee for president of Suriname. On 13 July,Santokhi was elected president by acclamation in an uncontested election. He was inaugurated on 16 July.

At the age of 35,he became the youngest vice president in the history of Suriname to lead the Council of Ministers. Adhin is a Hindu of Indian descent.
Niermala Badrising is a Surinamese diplomat and politician. She was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Suriname in the cabinet of President Dési Bouterse between 12 August 2015 and 1 February 2017. She was ambassador to the United States from July 2017 until October 2021.
General elections were held in Suriname on 25 May 2020. The elections occurred concurrently with an economic crisis in Suriname,as well as the COVID-19 crisis.
The COVID-19 pandemic in Suriname was caused by Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus was confirmed to have reached Suriname on 13 March 2020. The case was a person who travelled from the Netherlands the previous week. On 3 April 2020,one person died. On 3 May 2020,all nine cases had recovered. On 18 May,an eleventh case was identified.
Diana Marilva Pokie is a Surinamese politician. She was the assembly member from Brokopondo for the Brotherhood and Unity in Politics (BEP) before she was expelled. She returned to the assembly as the Brokopondo member representing the General Liberation and Development Party (ABOP) party. She became the first female vice-chairman of that party in 2019. On 16 July 2020,Pokie became Minister of Land and Forest Management. On 3 August 2021,Pokie was replaced by Dinotha Vorswijk.

Gillmore AndréHoefdraad is a Surinamese economist and politician. He was Governor of the Central Bank of Suriname from 2010 until 2015,and Ministry of Finance of Suriname from 2015 to 2020. In January 2020,it was reported that US$100 million was missing from the Central Bank. In July 2021,an Interpol red notice was issued for Hoefdraad. Hoefdraad was sentenced in absentia to 12 years imprisonment on 17 December 2021.
