The Big South Conference is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA's Division I. Originally a non-football conference, the Big South began sponsoring football in 2002 as part of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Big South, founded in 1983, is firmly rooted in the South Atlantic region of the United States, with full member institutions located in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Associate members are located in Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and South Carolina.
George F. "Buddy" Sasser is a former American football coach and athletics administrator. The Liberty Flames and Lady Flames are the athletics teams of Liberty University, in Lynchburg, Virginia, United States. They are a member of the NCAA Division I level in 20 sports. LU is a member of the ASUN Conference for most sports. Two sports that are not sponsored by the ASUN are housed elsewhere. Women's swimming competes in the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association. The 1993 Big South Conference men's basketball tournament took place March 3–6, 1993, at the North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, South Carolina. For the third time in their school history, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers won the tournament, led by head coach Russ Bergman.
The 2015–16 UNC Asheville Bulldogs men's basketball team represented the University of North Carolina at Asheville during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Liberty Flames are the defending tournament champions, after defeating the Campbell Lady Camels in the championship match.

The quarterfinals of the tournament were held at campus sites, while the semifinals and final took place at Bryan Park in Greensboro, North Carolina. The eight-team single-elimination tournament consisted of three rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The Liberty Flames were the defending champions, but they were eliminated from the 2017 tournament with a 2–0 semifinal loss to the Longwood Lancers. The High Point Panthers won the tournament with a 1–0 win over Longwood in the final. The conference tournament title was the sixth for the High Point women's soccer program and the fourth for head coach Marty Beall.
