Satoshi Kondo (born 1984) [1] is the artistic. director and head designer for Japanese fashion brand Issey Miyake. [2] [3]
Kondo was raised in Kyoto, Japan. His mother was a sewing teacher; his home was filled with patterns and designs. [4] He graduated from the Ueda College of Fashion [1] and graduated from its Fashion Creator Industry Masters program. He was awarded the Soen Magazine Award. [4]
Kondo has been with Issey Miyake for many years. Prior to becoming the artistic director of the fashion house he had previously served in other roles at the company, namely in the Pleats Please and Homme Plisse divisions. [5]
Kondo replaced Yoshiyuki Miyamae as design director in 2019. [6] [7] His first show for the house for the 2020 spring/summer women's collection featuring "floaty bodysuits" and "Helicoptering dresses" [8] emerged a viral sensation. [9]
Kondo’s design inspiration is the Japanese principle of ma, the space between two things. [10]
Issey Miyake was a Japanese fashion designer. He was known for his technology-driven clothing designs, exhibitions and fragrances, such as L'eau d'Issey, which became his best-known product.

A diffusion line is a secondary line of merchandise created by a high-end fashion house or fashion designer that retails at lower prices. These ranges are separate from a fashion house's "signature line", or principal artistic line, that typically retails at much higher prices. Diffusion products may be on sale alongside designers' signature lines but they can also be made available at concession outlets and certain chain stores. 21_21 Design Sight is a museum in Roppongi in Minato, Tokyo, Japan, which opened in 2007. The museum, a design museum, was created by architect Tadao Ando and fashion designer Issey Miyake. "The idea was to create not only a museum that shows exhibits," says Ando, "but also a place for researching the potentiality of design as an element that enriches our daily life, a place that fosters the public's interest in design by arousing in them different sights and perspectives on how we can view the world and the objects surrounding us." The building, designed by Ando, is on the edge of the park area, and features 1,700 square meters of floor space, including two galleries and an attached cafe run by chef and restaurateur Takamasa Uetake. The split-level concrete structure includes a hand-sanded steel roof and 14-meter (46 ft) long glass panels.
In design, the Atomic Age is the period roughly corresponding from 1940 to 1963, when concerns about nuclear war dominated Western society during the Cold War.
