Saturnus are a Danish death-doom band.
The band was formed in 1991 by vocalist Thomas A.G. Jensen and bassist Brian Hansen, as death metal band Asesino. The band changed their name to Saturnus in 1993, switching to their present sound of melodic death/doom with synthesized touches of gothic metal. Throughout the 90s, Saturnus had recorded and released several demos, an EP, and two albums, Paradise Belongs to You and Martyre. Saturnus released their third full-length album, Veronika Decides to Die , in May 2006. The album title was inspired by Paulo Coelho's novel of the same name. The band toured since the album's 2006 release into 2008 with bands such as Agalloch, Novembers Doom, Mar de Grises, and Thurisaz. [1]
On 9 April 2012 Saturnus posted on their Facebook page:
"Tomorrow we begin recording for the new album 'Saturn in Ascension', with 'Flemming Rasmussen' once again behind the mixer. We are looking forward to this [launching of the album 'Saturn in Ascension']. Bass and drums are the first things that will be recorded over the coming days, we will keep you posted on the development." [2]
On 10 October 2012 Saturnus announced on their Myspace page that the release date for Saturn in Ascension would be 30 November 2012, released via Cyclone Empire records. [3]
In 2020, two new guitarists have been hired and the band is willing to start working on a new album soon. In June 2020, vocalist T Jensen stated that the band was working on some unreleased songs and would be released later that year, however this did not happen due to unforeseen circumstances. In March 2023, it was eventually officially announced that their fifth studio album, titled The Storm Within, would be released on 16 June 2023, marking their longest ever gap between studio albums with it being their first new release in over a decade since 2012's Saturn in Ascension. The Kovenant is a Norwegian industrial metal band from Hamar. The band originally formed as a symphonic black metal act known as Covenant in 1993, but in 1999 were forced to change their name to The Kovenant due to a dispute with a Swedish electronic band of the same name. The band's name change also marked a change in sound/style as well, as the band from there on began to focus more on an aggrotech/industrial metal sound heavily influenced by Europe's EBM scene. Despite their style change, The Kovenant did however later reissue their early albums under The Kovenant name.
Barathrum is a Finnish black-doom metal band, formed in 1990. The band's name is Latin for pit or abyss. The first letters of their eight full-length albums spell "HEIL SOVA" - referring to the band's frontman, Demonos Sova, who is the only original member of the band. Their music is stylistically similar to early black metal acts such as Venom and Celtic Frost. Their lyrics deal with occult and religious themes.
Esoteric is an English funeral doom metal band from Birmingham, founded in 1992. Releasing seven studio albums, and a demo, the band is widely regarded as among the first groups to develop the funeral doom style. The band has named a variety of groups as influences, such as metal bands Morbid Angel and My Dying Bride, more "trippy" artists such as Pink Floyd, Spacemen 3, and King Crimson, and the industrial and dark ambient genres.
Funeral are a Norwegian funeral doom band formed in 1991 by Thomas Angell and Anders Eek; soon afterward, Einar Frederiksen joined as bassist and songwriter and Christian Loos joined as guitarist. They are known as one of the pioneers of the funeral doom genre.

Tormentor is a Hungarian black metal band formed in 1986 in Budapest. They recorded their first album, Anno Domini, in 1988, but were unable to release it until the end of communist rule in Hungary. The album reached Norway through the tape-trading community. Following the suicide of Per Ohlin, Mayhem invited Attila Csihar from Tormentor to join the band; he was to perform the vocals on De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. Tormentor split up in 1991. After a long break they reformed and released the more experimental Recipe Ferrum through Avantgarde Music in 2001, going on a long indefinite hiatus afterwards.
Simen Hestnæs, better known by his stage name ICS Vortex or simply Vortex, is a Norwegian musician. He is the vocalist of the similarly named band ICS Vortex, the avant-garde metal band Arcturus and the doom metal band Lamented Souls. He is also a vocalist and the bass guitarist to the heavy metal band Borknagar, and the former bass guitarist and clean vocalist for the symphonic black metal band Dimmu Borgir.

Memory Garden is a doom metal and heavy metal band from Kumla, Sweden. They were signed to Metal Blade Records until 2002, moved to Vic Records in 2006 and in 2012 returned to metal Blade to record Doomain (2013).
