Saymon Zakaria (born 3 December 1972) is a Bangladeshi folk researcher and Deputy Director of the Department of Culture in the Bangla Academy. [1] [2] He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2020 for his contribution in Bangladeshi folklore. [3]

Early life

Zakaria was born on 3 December 1972 at the Jungli village under Kumarkhali Upazila of Kushtia District in Bangladesh. [4] He received a Master of Philosophy on "The Characters of Rama and Sita in the Popular Versions of the Ramayana in Bangladesh" from the Jahangirnagar University and obtained Doctor of Philosophy on the "Traditional Theater in Bangladesh: Content and Mode of Language" from the University of Dhaka.

Career

Zakaria joined the Bangla Academy's folklore department as a manuscript editor. He was the research assistant of the cultural survey project at the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh, research lead of the UNESCO's Action Plan for the Safeguarding of Baul Songs project run by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and the sub-editor of the daily Samakal. Mohammad Nurul Huda Bangladeshi poet and novelist

Mohammad Nurul Huda is a Bangladeshi poet and novelist. He has written more than fifty poetry books. He was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2015. Huda was born to Mohammad Sekander and Anjuman Ara Begum in Poak Khali of Cox's Bazar district, Bangladesh on 30 September 1949.

He won a number of awards, including Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1982 for his contribution to research.; Prothom Alo Book Award in 2007; IFIC literary prize 2018; the Ekusey Padak for language and literature in 2021 and the Vidyasagar Endowments Lectures 1973 at Calcutta University. Besides being a prolific author, Dr. Murshid is a distinguished lexicographer. He edited a three-volume Bengali dictionary, called 'Bibartonmulak Bangla Abhidhan', published in 2013–2014, by the Bangla Academy. In the two hundred years' of history of Bengali dictionaries, it is the first to be based on historical principles. It provides the evolution of the form and meaning of every word and traces the first use thereof in written Bengali.

Bimal Guha

Bimal Guha is a Bangladeshi poet. He appeared on the Bangladesh literary scene in the 1970s. His themes revolve around the war of liberation and the eternal subjects of love, nature, motherland, mother-tongue, tradition, and modernity.

Abul Kashem Fazlul Haq is a Bangladeshi writer, essayist, translator, critic, columnist and activist. He is a former professor of Bengali language and literature at the University of Dhaka. He is the convener of Rashtrabhasha Bangla Rokkha Komiti. He received Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1981.

Rabiul Hussain Bangladeshi poet and architect

Rabiul Hussain was a Bangladeshi poet and architect. He was one of the trustees of the Bangladesh Liberation War Museum. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2009 for poetry. In recognition of his contribution to Bengali language and literature, the government of Bangladesh awarded him the country's second highest civilian award Ekushey Padak in 2018.

The Mazharul Islam Poetry Award, is given by the Bangla Academy of Bangladesh in recognition of creative genius in advancement and overall contribution in the field of Poetry. It was introduced in 2010 to honor the memory of Bangladeshi poet, folklorist, and academic Mazharul Islam.

Monzur-I-Mowla was a Bangladeshi author, poet and former director general of Bangla Academy. He was elected director general of Bangla Academy from 1982 to 1986. His list of poetry books include Nimagna, Ki Kore Pabo, Mati Here Jai, Shawla o Dinghi, Pure Pure, Ai din Mitthey, Bandana Bristir and Peyecho Ki. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2007 and Bangla Academy Rabindra Award in 2014.
