Scallywagga is a British comedy sketch show, written by Stuart Kenworthy, who has worked on Green Wing and Smack the Pony . [1] The executive producer of series one was Kenton Allen, and the producer was Jon Montague. [2] The pilot episode aired on 21 March 2007 when the show was known as Spacehopper. [2] Sally Lindsay confirmed on The Paul O'Grady Show that there would be a second series which was also filmed in and around Manchester, bringing on board a new director (David Sant) and new producer (Kristian Smith) and several cast changes. The first series was broadcast on TV in 2008 and the DVD was released in early 2010 along with series one. Series two began broadcasting on Tuesday 23 February 2010.

Overview

Described as being, "A heady mix of the best fresh and familiar funny voices – straight out of the north – combined to play Scallywagga's host of wrongheaded new characters", [3] the programme first aired on BBC Three on 29 April 2008. Series One starred Curtis Cole, Steve Edge, Neil Fitzmaurice, Luke Gell, Stefan Gumbs, Jessica Hall, Joanna Higson, Lena Kaur, Sally Lindsay, Carl Rice and Scott Taylor. It ran until 3 June 2008 and was filmed on location in Manchester. There is no audience laughter [4] Series Two returned in 2010, featuring more regular characters and some changes to the ensemble. Steve Edge and Sally Lindsay returned, along with Luke Gell, Stefan Gumbs and Carl Rice. The actresses, Beverly Rudd, Rachel Rae and Catherine Tyldesley joined the Scallywagga group, along with newcomer Christopher Brett.

Stuart Kenworthy is a British comedy writer, most noted for his work in the sketch show Smack the Pony and the sitcom Green Wing. A scene originated by Stuart, for Green Wing, was nominated for Most Memorable Comedy Moment of 2005. The pilot episode of Scallywagga won Best Comedy at the RTS North West Awards 2007. The first series of Scallywagga was broadcast on BBC Three in April 2008. Joanna Higson is an English actress. She graduated from Salford University with a First Class Honours degree in Media and Performance in 2006. She joined the cast of Shameless in series 6, playing the role of "Maxine". She appeared in the first series of Sky One and later Sky Max’s production “Brassic” where she played a minor role. She reprised the role playing a more prominent part as manager of a club with Erin and later part of the main group.

Carl Rice is a British actor from Liverpool. He has appeared in Brookside, Brassic, Jimmy McGovern’s Hearts and Minds and more. He also founded Milk Pictures in 2021.

Beverly Rudd is a British television and theatre actress and narrator. She rose to prominence playing the role of Tina in the BBC Three sitcom Massive. She won a Royal Television Society award for her work on the show. She later joined the cast of comedy sketch show Scallywagga. From 2011 until 2018 Rudd played the regular role of Lisa in the Sky One comedy drama Trollied. Aside from television work the actress has concentrated on her theatre work and has appeared in numerous stage productions.

Hard Cell is a British mockumentary sitcom television series created, co-written and co-directed by Catherine Tate, who also plays six of the main characters. The series premiered on 12 April 2022 on Netflix, and consists of six episodes. In June 2023, Tate confirmed that Netflix had officially cancelled the series after one season, which Tate found out about through someone else's agent.
