Scarr's Pizza is a pizzeria at 35 Orchard Street in the Lower East Side neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City.
The restaurant was founded in 2016 by Scarr Pimentel, a New York native who learned to make pizza at Lombardi's. [1]
Staff mills some of the wheat for the restaurant's fermented crust in the pizzeria's basement daily, mixing it with flour from upstate New York in a compromise to keep up with demand. [2] It is the only pizza-by-the-slice restaurant milling its own flour in New York, according to Serious Eats . [3] [1] Gothamist wrote that its cheese is a combination of three types of mozzarella and sauce is made fresh. [4]
The restaurant sourced much of its decor from a bowling alley which, in combination with its wood paneled walls, and letter boards, is intended to recreate the diner-like aesthetic of neighborhood pizzerias from the 1970s or 1980s. [5] [1] [6] [7] [8] Several reviewers praised the dough, cheese, sauce, and ingredient selection, and it was named one of the best pizza slices in New York by the New York Times, Gothamist , and Serious Eats. [1] [4] [3] [2] In a mixed review by The Infatuation , Bryan Kim wrote that Scarr's works better if you think of it as a bar that serves pizza rather than expect a comfortable sit-down restaurant. A second location in a food hall in Midtown Manhattan was planned, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [10] [11] In June 2023, the main location moved to a larger space across the street, from 22 to 35 Orchard Street. [12]
New York–style pizza is a pizza made with a characteristically large hand-tossed thin crust, often sold in wide slices to go. Seastar served breads, cookies, pastries, and toast, among other baked goods. Despite garnering a positive reception and being deemed one of the city's best bakeries by Eater Portland and Portland Monthly, Seastar closed in August 2022.
Post Alley Pizza is a pizzeria in Seattle, in the U.S. state of Washington. The business was established by chef Doug Murray in 1997. He sold the business in 1999; since then, Post Alley Pizza has been owned by Joshua Huckaby, Marc Russell, spouses Andrew and Ruel Gregory, and Yasuaki Saito. The restaurant has garnered a positive reception for its New York–style pizza and sandwiches. Post Alley now focuses on pizza, removing sandwiches from the menu in late 2023.
Blotto was a restaurant on Seattle's Capitol Hill, in the U.S. state of Washington. Cal Hoffmann and Jordan Koplowitz established the pizzeria as a pop-up in 2020, before relocating to a brick and mortar space in 2021. Despite garnering a positive reception, Blotto closed in December 2023.
