School of Synthesis is a musical school in Melbourne, Australia specializing in electronic music. School of Synthesis was formed in 2010 by ARIA Award-winning Australian music producer, composer, sound designer Davide Carbone and DJ and music producer Mike Callander. Carbone and Callander met at RMIT University in Melbourne where Callander was a student and Carbone a teacher in sound recording. [1]
The school offers courses in Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Sound Design (featuring Native Instruments software Massive and Kontakt), Electronic Music Theory, Maschine and Mixing and Mastering. It also runs free monthly events on electronic music production in Melbourne. In December 2012 School of Synthesis presented an event by Dutch techno producer/DJ Joris Voorn. The attendees at this Masterclass were selected via a competition co-presented by the electronic dance music festival Stereosonic. [2]
Tech house is a subgenre of house music that combines stylistic features of techno with house. The term tech house developed as a shorthand record store name for a category of electronic dance music that combined musical aspects of techno, such as "rugged basslines" and "steely beats", with the harmonies and grooves of progressive house. The music originally had a clean and minimal production style that was associated with techno from Detroit and the UK.
Hardcore is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in the Netherlands in the early 1990s. It is distinguished by faster tempos and a distorted sawtooth kick, the intensity of the kicks and the synthesized bass, the rhythm and the atmosphere of the themes, the usage of saturation and experimentation close to that of industrial dance music. It would spawn subgenres such as gabber.
Hardstyle is an electronic dance genre that emerged in the late 1990s, with origins in the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy. Hardstyle mixes influences from techno, new beat and hardcore.

Uroš Umek, better known as DJ Umek or simply UMEK, is a Slovenian dance music producer and DJ. Musically active since 1993, he is the owner of several techno record labels. In 1999 he founded Consumer Recreation and Recycled Loops, the former of which he co-runs with Valentino Kanzyani. Recycled Loops formed the sublabel Earresistible Musick in 2001, and in 2007 Umek founded the large techno label 1605.
