Scott Meyer (born April 10, 1976) is an American former ice hockey player and coach who was the head coach and general manager of the Minnesota Magicians of the North American Hockey League. [1] [2] Meyer was also an ownership partner of the Minnesota Junior Hockey Group, which owns and operates the Magicians. [3]

Career

Meyer was a goalie during his playing career (1994–2004) for several teams in the NAHL, USHL, WCHA, ECHL, and AHL. Following his senior season at St. Cloud State University (2000–01) he was named to the NCAA Division I All-American Second Team [4] and to the All-WCHA First Team. [5] During the 2001–02 season, Meyer served briefly as a backup goaltender for the New York Rangers, but did not appear in a game. [4]

Before his coaching tenure with the Minnesota Magicians, Meyer also served as an assistant coach for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and for Hamline University. [1] Meyer is also owner and co-founder of Exceed Hockey Group, LLC. an organization that operates hockey training centers and development programs and clinics, [6] as well as several Tier III junior farm teams for the Minnesota Magicians: Chicago Jr. Bulldogs (NA3HL), [7] College Station Spirit (NA3HL), [8] and the River Falls Renegades (USPHL). The Minnesota Junior Hockey Group would eventually sell or fold the Tier III teams.

When the NAHL announced that the Minnesota Magicians were granted membership to the league in late 2012, Meyer was an ownership partner of the Minnesota Junior Hockey Group, which owns and operates the Magicians. [3] In November 2017, Meyer was replaced in his role as general manager with the Magicians [9] and then was replaced as head coach in December. [10] As of December 2018, the Magicians no longer identify him as a member of the team's ownership group. [11]

North American 3 Hockey League Tier III junior ice hockey league

The North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) is an American Tier III junior ice hockey league that consists of teams from Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Sanctioned by USA Hockey, for most of the league's existence, the winner of the NA3HL playoffs would advance to play for the Tier III National Championship, however, this has not been held since 2015.

Chicago Hitmen

The Chicago Hitmen were a Junior A Tier II ice hockey team based out of the Chicago region.

The Chippewa Steel is a Tier II junior ice hockey team based in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, that plays in the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

Rochester Grizzlies

The Rochester Grizzlies are a Tier III junior ice hockey team in the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL). The team plays their home games at the 2,600-seat Rochester Recreation Center, located in Rochester, Minnesota. The team typically plays more than 45 regular season games, in addition to showcase and postseason games.

The River Falls Renegades was a Tier III junior ice hockey team that played first in the Minnesota Junior Hockey League (MnJHL) and then the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL). The team was not listed among the USPHL membership in 2017–18.

Helena Bighorns

The Helena Bighorns are a Tier III Junior A ice hockey team in the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) based in Helena, Montana United States. The team plays their home games at the 1,600-seat Helena Ice Arena.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights are a junior ice hockey organization from Pittston, Pennsylvania. In 2015, the Knights' junior hockey organization purchased the dormant Dawson Creek Rage franchise in the Tier II North American Hockey League (NAHL) and placed their Tier III franchise in the Eastern Hockey League into dormancy. The organization has reactivated and deactivated their Tier III level teams at various times, but plans to launch teams in the United States Premier Hockey League's Premier and Elite Divisions, non-USA Hockey sanctioned leagues that operate similar to the Tier III level. The organization also has several youth ice hockey teams in its development program.

The New Ulm Steel are a Tier III junior ice hockey team based in New Ulm, Minnesota. They are members of the West Division of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL).

The Alexandria Blizzard is a USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier III Junior ice hockey team playing in the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL). The team plays their home games at Runestone Community Center in Alexandria, Minnesota. The franchise is owned by Chris and Mitri Canavati, the owners of the Tier II North American Hockey League's Brookings Blizzard.

Minnesota Magicians

The Minnesota Magicians are a Tier II junior ice hockey team in the North American Hockey League's Midwest Division. Based in Richfield, Minnesota, the Magicians play their home games at Richfield Ice Arena. The Magicians are the only Tier II junior hockey team in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metro area.

The Lewiston/Auburn Nordiques were a Tier III Junior "A" ice hockey team from Lewiston, Maine. The team was a member of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) since 2016 and played home games at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée since 2015. The franchise relocated several times under the operation of the Fighting Spirit organization before it was sold to the Colisée owner, Jim Cain, in 2017.

Mid-Cities Junior Stars

The Mid-Cities Jr. Stars are a USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier III Junior ice hockey team playing in the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL). The team plays their home games at Dr. Pepper StarCenter in Euless, Texas.

North Iowa Bulls

The North Iowa Bulls are a Tier II junior ice hockey team in the North American Hockey League (NAHL). They play their home games at the Mason City Multipurpose Arena in Mason City, Iowa. The organization also operates a Tier III junior team in the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) that was known as the North Iowa Bulls from 2011 to 2021 before relocating the Tier II Amarillo Bulls' franchise to Mason City and rebranding the Tier III team as the Mason City Toros. The Bulls are coached by Todd Sanden, who has been with the North Iowa team since its inception in 2011.

The Northeast Generals are a Tier II junior ice hockey team based in Attleboro, Massachusetts. The team competes in the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

The Maine Nordiques are a Tier II junior ice hockey team in the North American Hockey League's East Division. The Nordiques play their home games at Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine.

The Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks are a USA Hockey-sanctioned junior ice hockey organization based in Danbury, Connecticut. The organization has junior teams in the Tier II North American Hockey League and the Tier III North American 3 Hockey League, both of which play home games at the Danbury Ice Arena.
