Scott Tennant is an American classical guitarist and composer. [1] Tennant is a founding member of the Grammy Award-winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. [2] [3]

Early life and education

Born in Detroit, Michigan in March 1962, Tennant began his musical and guitar studies at the age of six. [2] He attended Cass Technical High School in Detroit, where he also studied violin and trombone. Having played the former in the Cass Tech Symphony Orchestra and the latter in the Cass Tech Concert Band, Tennant graduated in the class of 1980.[ citation needed ]

Tennant was admitted into the school of music of the University of Southern California in 1980, and studied there until 1986. [4] Having won silver medals in both the Toronto International Guitar Competition in 1984 and the Paris Radio France Competition in 1988, Tennant won the gold medal in the Tokyo International Competition as 1989's first-place finisher.[ citation needed ]

Career

Academia

Tennant taught guitar at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music from 1989–1993, and has since been on the faculty of the USC Thornton School of Music. [5] Tennant also sits on the faculty of the Pasadena Conservatory of Music. [6]

The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (LAGQ) is an American classical guitar ensemble that was formed in 1980. It consists of John Dearman, William Kanengiser, Scott Tennant and Matthew Greif. They play nylon string guitars to imitate a variety of instruments and effects.

The USC Thornton School of Music is a private music school in Los Angeles, California. Founded in 1884 only four years after the University of Southern California, the Thornton School is the oldest continually operating arts institution in Los Angeles. The school is located on the USC University Park Campus, south of Downtown Los Angeles.

Jae Deal has worked behind the scenes and on stage with several premiere artists including Janet Jackson, Lady Gaga, Snoop Dogg, Diddy, Mary Mary, Karen Clark Sheard, Ne-Yo, Faith Evans, Tye Tribbett, T-Pain, Jessica Simpson and Wynton Marsalis. He has also contributed to the works of Elton John, Jill Scott and songwriter, Diane Warren. Other projects have included performances with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and musical direction for Kirk Franklin’s Youth Ministry at Faithful Central Bible Church.

James Walker is an American flutist and educator. He is the former Principal Flute of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the founder of the jazz quartet Free Flight. Since 1984, he has focused most of his attention on jazz performance and flute pedagogy.

William Kanengiser is a classical guitarist. He is one of the founding members of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (LAGQ).
