Scott Michael Turner (born August 7, 1982) is an American football coach who recently served as the interim offensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). He has also been an assistant coach for the Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers, as well as an offensive coordinator for the Washington Football Team / Commanders. He is the son of former NFL head coach Norv Turner.
Turner was born on August 7, 1982, in Los Angeles. He spent some of his childhood in Coppell, Texas, while his father, Norv, was offensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys teams that won two Super Bowls. In 1993, after his father was hired as head coach of the Washington Redskins, he and his family moved to Northern Virginia. Turner attended Oakton High School in Vienna, Virginia, where he played quarterback for their football team. [1] [2]
Turner attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he was a reserve member of the UNLV Rebels football team.
In 2011, Turner started his NFL coaching career with the Carolina Panthers under first-year head coach Ron Rivera. Turner served as the offensive quality control coach for two seasons with the Panthers. [3]
In 2013, Turner was hired by the Cleveland Browns as their wide receivers coach, coaching under his father and offensive coordinator Norv Turner for the first time. [4]
In 2014, Turner was hired by the Minnesota Vikings as their quarterback coach under his offensive coordinator father, Norv, and first-year head coach Mike Zimmer. [5] He worked closely with Teddy Bridgewater, drafted 32nd overall in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft. [6] In 2015, the Vikings won the NFC North division title but lost to the Seattle Seahawks in the wild card. He was fired in January 2017.
Turner was hired as an offensive analyst under Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh in February 2017. [7]
In 2018, Turner returned to the Panthers as their quarterback coach. [8] He was their interim offensive coordinator for the final four games of the 2019 season following head coach Ron Rivera's firing. [9]
On January 8, 2020, Turner was hired by the Washington Football Team as their offensive coordinator under head coach Ron Rivera. [10] He signed a multi-year contract extension on March 13, 2022, but was dismissed by the team following the season. [11]
Turner joined the Las Vegas Raiders as their pass game coordinator on February 3, 2023. [12] He was named the team's interim offensive coordinator on November 5, 2024, following the firing of Luke Getsy. [13]
Ronald Eugene Rivera is an American former professional football player and coach in the National Football League (NFL). He played nine seasons as a linebacker for the Chicago Bears and was a member of their 1985 team that won Super Bowl XX. He became a head coach and was twice named the NFL Coach of the Year with the Carolina Panthers.
Harold Wade Phillips is an American football coach who is currently the head coach of the San Antonio Brahmas of the United Football League (UFL). He has served as head coach of the Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys, and Houston Roughnecks. He has also served as interim head coach for the New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, and the Houston Texans. Others under Phillips have won Defensive Rookie of the Year: Mike Croel and Shawne Merriman. In Phillips' lone Super Bowl victory, a defensive player would be named Super Bowl MVP: Von Miller.
Norval Eugene Turner is an American professional football coach who is a senior advisor for the Las Vegas Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). An offensive assistant for the majority of his coaching career, Turner was the Dallas Cowboys' offensive coordinator during their consecutive Super Bowl victories in Super Bowl XXVII and Super Bowl XXVIII.
Joshua Thomas McDaniels is an American professional football coach who is the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). He has served as the offensive coordinator of the Patriots for 14 non-consecutive seasons. During McDaniels' first stint from 2006 to 2008, New England set the season record for points scored and became the first team to win all 16 regular season games in 2007. Hue Jackson is an American football coach who is the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Georgia State University, a position he has held since 2024. An offensive assistant at both the collegiate and professional levels, he held coordinator positions in the National Football League (NFL) with the Washington Redskins in 2003, the Atlanta Falcons in 2007, the Oakland Raiders in 2010, and the Cincinnati Bengals from 2014 to 2015. He also served as the head coach of the Raiders in 2011 and Cleveland Browns from 2016 to 2018. Jackson compiled a 3–36–1 record with the Browns, including a winless season in 2017, which is the worst record among coaches who presided over an NFL team for at least 40 games. He later returned to coaching at the HBCU level, where he spent a season at Tennessee State University, and was the head coach at Grambling State University from 2022 to 2023.

The Carolina Panthers' history formally dates back to 1993, when the NFL awarded the franchise to Charlotte, North Carolina. The Panthers, along with the Jacksonville Jaguars, began play in the 1995 NFL season as expansion teams. Stefanski left Minnesota to become the Browns' head coach in 2020, where he led the team to their first playoff appearance since 2002. He was named NFL Coach of the Year after the season, becoming the first Browns coach to receive the honor since 1976 and the first following the franchise's 1999 return as an expansion team. He led the Browns to a second playoff appearance in 2023 and won a second NFL Coach of the Year award for his work that season.
