He played his early rugby at Rosmini College and then Westlake Boys High School. Pivac played senior rugby for both the Northcote and Takapuna rugby clubs. Pivac played for North Harbour Rugby Union while he was a policeman. A reoccurring knee injury forced Pivac to retire from playing Rugby at the age of 28. The 2007 New Zealand rugby league season was the 100th season of rugby league that had been played in New Zealand. The main feature of the year was the eighth season of the Bartercard Cup competition that was run by the New Zealand Rugby League. The Auckland Lions won the Cup by defeating Harbour League 28-4 in the Grand Final.
George Davidson was a New Zealand sprinter and rugby league player. He competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics and finished fifth in the 200 metres competition. He also participated in the 100 metres event where he was eliminated in the quarter-finals. His Olympic participation was hindered due to the time it took to travel from NZ to Belgium for the games. Famous American Athletic coach Ike Kelly said of Davidson, if he was able to coach him for 6 months, he would have turned him into a world champion.
Desmond Henry White is a New Zealand former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s and 1950s. A record-breaking goal-kicking fullback, he was named amongst the country's finest players of the 20th century. His total for points scored in all matches (61) for the Kiwis is a record 467. He won championships with Auckland's Ponsonby club and his total of 794 points is the all-time club record.

Roger Wayne Bailey is a New Zealand former rugby league footballer and coach who represented New Zealand thirty times between 1961 and 1970. His brother Gary also played for New Zealand while his brother Bob later coached New Zealand and his son David was also a professional player. Bailey is of New Zealand Māori descent.
The 1910 Great Britain Lions tour of Australia and New Zealand was the first international tour of the Great Britain national rugby league team, "The Lions". They played the second ever Ashes series against Australia, and their first as the visiting team, before travelling to Auckland to take on New Zealand. The tour was a huge promotional and financial success for what was then known as the "Northern Union" game and helped set the pattern for regular, alternating test match series between Britain and Australia. It is regarded as one of the most important events in the history of rugby league.
