Scott started playing beach volleyball professionally in 1997 after playing collegiately at the University of Hawaiʻi from 1992 to 1995. [1] He joined the Association of Volleyball Professionals Tour shortly afterwards and was named the 1999 AVP Tour Rookie of the Year. As he neared the end of his career, he was noted for having supreme physical fitness due to his training regime and nutrition. [4] Additionally with the fall of the AVP in 2010, Scott had to find numerous other places to play which included a return to the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour and numerous other lesser-stature tours such as the National Volleyball League, Wide Open Beach Volleyball, and Pro Beach Volleyball Series. [5] He continued participation in the various leagues upon the return of the AVP Tour, which resulted in winning 14 of the 19 domestic tournaments he played in, across four different tours, in 2011 and 2012.

He is the only player to have won Olympic medals of any color in both the indoor and beach volleyball categories. Michael Dodd is an American retired professional beach volleyball player who attended San Diego State University. With his partner Mike Whitmarsh, he won the silver medal in the men's inaugural beach volleyball tournament at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Since winning silver in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, he has worked the Olympic Games of 2000 as a beach analyst and 2004 as an indoor analyst for NBC. In 2008, Dodd coached AVP stars Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal in the Beijing Olympics. Dodd also captained Team USA to a win over Brazil's best players in the inaugural AVP World Challenge in 2009.
