The sector research institutes of Denmark (Danish : Sektorforskningsinstitutioner) are state-owned independent research institutes under various Danish Government ministries, whose primary task is to do research in various fields. [1] All institutes classified as sector research institute are subject to the law of Sector research institutes, law #326 of May 5, 2004, previously law #1076 of December 20, 1995.
The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Danish: Ministeriet for Videnskab, Teknologi og Udvikling) decides which institutes are classified as sector research institutes. The Ministry also consults with Det Strategiske Forskningsråd before abolishing or establishing new institutes.

Axel Olrik was a Danish folklorist and scholar of mediaeval historiography, and a pioneer in the methodical study of oral narrative.
Johan Thomas Lundbye was a Danish painter and graphic artist, known for his animal and landscape paintings. He was inspired by Niels Laurits Høyen's call to develop nationalistic art through depictions of Denmark's characteristic landscapes; the historical buildings and monuments, and the country's simple, rural people. He became one of his generation's national romantic painters, along with P. C. Skovgaard and Lorenz Frølich, to regularly depict the landscape of Zealand.

Danish folklore consists of folk tales, legends, songs, music, dancing, popular beliefs, myths and traditions communicated by the inhabitants of towns and villages across the country, often passed on from generation to generation by word of mouth. As in neighbouring countries, interest in folklore grew with an emerging feeling of national consciousness in 19th century Denmark. Researchers travelled across the country collecting innumerable folktales, songs and sayings while observing traditional dress in the various regions. Folklore today is part of the national heritage, represented in particular by national and local traditions, songs, folk dances and literature.
Danish sculpture as a nationally recognized art form can be traced back to 1752 when Jacques Saly was commissioned to execute a statue of King Frederick V of Denmark on horseback. While Bertel Thorvaldsen was undoubtedly the country's most prominent contributor, many other players have produced fine work, especially in the areas of Neoclassicism, Realism, and in Historicism, the latter resulting from growing consciousness of a national identity. More recently, Danish sculpture has been inspired by European trends, especially those from Paris, including Surrealism and Modernism.
Weilbachs Kunstnerleksikon is a Danish biographical dictionary of artists and architects. The current edition, which is also freely accessible online, contains the biographies of some 8,000 Danish artists and architects.

Perkerdansk, Immigrant Danish or Gadedansk is a multi-ethnolect spoken in Denmark, a variety of Danish associated primarily with youth of Middle Eastern ethnic background. It is a contact variety that includes features of Danish as well as Arabic, Turkish, English and other immigrant languages. Particularly common in urban areas with high densities of immigrant populations, its features have also spread to general youth language in Denmark.
Vilhelm Rasmus Andreas Andersen was a Danish author, literary historian and intellectual, who primarily focused on the study of Danish literature. He was one of the first to use the term "Golden Age of Culture" to refer to the 1800s, and his focus on bringing Danish literature to the public earned him great popularity. Andersen was instrumental in the development of the School of Radio, as a means of disseminating public education to prevent loss of cultural identity and treasures.
Juliane Marie Jessen was an early Danish female author and translator who became known in 1819 by winning first prize for the words she wrote for a national anthem for Denmark, with her Dannemark! Dannemark! – hellige Lyd!, although it was never officially adopted. She also published other works including poetry and, in 1815, the play Ei blot til Lyst.
Open access to scholarly communication in Denmark has grown rapidly since the 1990s. As in other countries in general, open access publishing is less expensive than traditional, paper-based, pre-Internet publishing.
Niels Aage Anton Nielsen was a Danish professor of Nordic languages at Aarhus University. He was also a leader in the Danish resistance movement.
Birgitte Possing is a Danish historian who has specialized in historical biography. In 1992, paying special attention to aspects relating to gender, she earned a doctorate with Viljens styrke, a biography of the pioneering feminist and educator Natalie Zahle. Possing has headed the manuscript department of the Danish National Library and coordinated research at the National Museum of Denmark. From 2000 to 2004, she was director of Danmarks Humanistiske Forskningscenter after which she was appointed senior researcher at the Danish National Archives. In the late 1990s, while collaborating with Kvinfo on Dansk kvindebiografisk leksikon covering women's biographies, Possing identified 1,140 Danish women of historical importance who had not been included in the authoritative biographical dictionary Dansk Biografisk Leksikon.
Claus Ebbe Bjørn was a Danish author, historian, and television and radio broadcaster, who was Associate Professor of Agricultural History at the University of Copenhagen, Chairman of the Danish Agricultural History Society and Member of the Royal Danish Society of the History of the Fatherland.
