Sendion also spelled Sendiun or sendyoun (Arabic language: سنديون is a village in northeastern Egypt located in Qalyubia Governorate belonging to the town of Qalyub about 20 km north of Cairo.

Egypt, officially the Arab Republic of Egypt, is a country spanning the northeast corner of Africa and southwest corner of Asia by a land bridge formed by the Sinai Peninsula. Qalyubia Governorate is one of the governorates of Egypt. Located in Lower Egypt. It is situated north of Cairo in the Nile Delta region. Its capital is Benha.

Cairo is the capital of Egypt. The city's metropolitan area is one of the largest in Africa, the largest in the Middle East, and the 15th-largest in the world, and is associated with ancient Egypt, as the famous Giza pyramid complex and the ancient city of Memphis are located in its geographical area. Located near the Nile Delta, modern Cairo was founded in 969 CE by the Fatimid dynasty, but the land composing the present-day city was the site of ancient national capitals whose remnants remain visible in parts of Old Cairo. Cairo has long been a centre of the region's political and cultural life, and is titled "the city of a thousand minarets" for its preponderance of Islamic architecture. Cairo is considered a World City with a "Beta +" classification according to GaWC.

Agriculture

Sendion is located in the rich farmland of the southern part of the Nile Delta and is well irrigated by canals leading off the Delta Barrage. Most of the agricultural land on Sendion is famous for its citrus orchards. It is also famous for cultivation of onions next to all types of crops as it is the first village in poultry.

Arable land is, according to one definition, land capable of being ploughed and used to grow crops. In Britain, it was traditionally contrasted with pasturable land such as heaths which could be used for sheep-rearing but not farmland.

The Nile Delta is the delta formed in Northern Egypt where the Nile River spreads out and drains into the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of the world's largest river deltas—from Alexandria in the west to Port Said in the east, it covers 240 km (150 mi) of Mediterranean coastline and is a rich agricultural region. From north to south the delta is approximately 160 km (99 mi) in length. The Delta begins slightly down-river from Cairo.

Irrigation is the application of controlled amounts of water to plants at needed intervals. Irrigation helps to grow agricultural crops, maintain landscapes, and revegetate disturbed soils in dry areas and during periods of less than average rainfall. Irrigation also has other uses in crop production, including frost protection, suppressing weed growth in grain fields and preventing soil consolidation. In contrast, agriculture that relies only on direct rainfall is referred to as rain-fed or dry land farming.

Industry

In ancient times, Sendion was a small village named Send yun, which means (in hieroglyphs) the Kingdom of Leon or yun. Today it is famous for its preserved foods industry and as an industrial and agricultural village. It lies on the rail network that radiates north from Cairo.

A hieroglyph was a character of the ancient Egyptian writing system. Logographic scripts that are pictographic in form in a way reminiscent of ancient Egyptian are also sometimes called "hieroglyphs". In Neoplatonism, especially during the Renaissance, a "hieroglyph" was an artistic representation of an esoteric idea, which Neoplatonists believed actual Egyptian hieroglyphs to be. The word hieroglyphics refer to a hieroglyphic script. Only those privileged with an extensive education were able to read and write hieroglyphs; others used simpler 'joined-up' versions: demotic and hieratic script.

Egyptian National Railways is the national railway of Egypt and managed by the parastatal Egyptian Railway Authority.

Geography

Geographically, Sendion is a model village which is famous for being densely populated. It is bordered on the north by Qaha and on east by Tanan village and separated by a railway and the agricultural main road to Alexandria. Sendion is bordered on the west by agricultural villages, such as Sendbis and a little village on the south called Qalama.

Qaha is a city in northeastern Egypt, located 25 km north of Cairo. It is located in the rich farmland of the southern part of the Nile Delta, and is well-irrigated by canals leading off the Delta Barrage.

Alexandria is the second-largest city in Egypt and a major economic centre, extending about 32 km (20 mi) along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea in the north central part of the country. Its low elevation on the Nile delta makes it highly vulnerable to rising sea levels. Alexandria is an important industrial center because of its natural gas and oil pipelines from Suez. Alexandria is also a popular tourist destination.
