Sentient Information Systems BV is a Dutch software provider specialized in data mining. The company was founded in 2001 out of the former Sentient Machine Research (SMR) and is located in Amsterdam.
Sentient's flagship product is DataDetective, a data mining platform capable of analyzing information from various domains. Users of this tool include several Dutch police departments, hospitals, insurance and media companies.
Data mining is the process of extracting and discovering patterns in large data sets involving methods at the intersection of machine learning, statistics, and database systems. Data mining is an interdisciplinary subfield of computer science and statistics with an overall goal of extracting information from a data set and transforming the information into a comprehensible structure for further use. Data mining is the analysis step of the "knowledge discovery in databases" process, or KDD.
