Serena Ho

Serena Ho, also known by her stage name mySERENA, [1] is a Hong Kong-based artist. Her exhibitions have been shown in establishments including the CICA Museum of Seoul and the Hong Kong City Hall.

Early life

Ho's father is an architect and her mother was a university professor. She later earned a graduate degree from Stanford University, and travelled to cities in Europe, Japan, and parts of the US to study painting, architecture, sculpture, and performing arts. She also completed the eighth grade of the Royal Academy of Music as a pianist. [2]

Career

Ho founded a fashion line [2] in Hong Kong in 2019. [3] In 2018 she became the youngest female artist to put on a solo exhibition at Hong Kong City Hall, [1] where she also put on the solo exhibition Be in Clovers in 2018. [4] Then in 2019 year she has also put on solo exhibitions at the Jinshan Ecool ADC Art Center in Chongqing, China, [5] [6] and in 2020, a solo exhibition in Tokyo, Japan [7] entitled Cloud 9 that was intended to start a world tour before the pandemic commenced. [8] In this exhibition she showed her “Alchemy” series, in which she applied metal processing and sculpture techniques to her paintings: first, she plated gold, silver, blue or white oil on paper and canvas, and then carved them. [9] She has also exhibited her work in Amsterdam, and in 2021, she then held the solo exhibition Life Elements at the CICA Museum of Seoul, South Korea. [10] [11] [3]

Books

In 2020 Ho released two books featuring her art: one entitled A Tale of Serenity [1] and the second entitled A Journey of Serenity. [3]

Kimsooja was born in Daegu, South Korea. Kimsooja is a multi-disciplinary conceptual artist who travels between her three homes and places of work in New York City, Paris, and Seoul. In 1980 Kim graduated with a B.F.A in Painting from Hong-Ik University, Seoul and continued to pursue her M.F.A there, obtaining the degree in 1984 at the age of 27. Her origin as a painter was a crucial starting point for the development of her art. That same year, she received a scholarship to study art at Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France, where she studied Printmaking. Her first solo exhibition was held in 1988 at Gallery Hyundai, Seoul. Currently, her work is featured in countless international museums and galleries as well as public art fairs and other spaces. Her practice combines performance, film, photo, and site-specific installation using textile, light, and sound. Kimsooja's work investigates questions concerning the conditions of humanity, while engaging issues of aesthetics, culture, politics, and the environment. Her principle of ‘non-doing’ and ‘non-making,’ which follows a conceptual and structural investigation of performance through modes of mobility and immobility, inverts the notion of the artist as the predominant actor.

Jane Jin Kaisen is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Joey Leung Ka-yin is a contemporary gongbi artist in Hong Kong. Trained in the meticulous style of traditional Chinese fine brush painting, Leung's works combine tradition with modern subject matter. Mari Kim (Korean: 마리킴) is a South Korean contemporary artist from Seoul, South Korea. She is known for the big-eyed, cartoon-like female characters in her pop art paintings, called "eyedolls". Her work was popularly recognized after her 2011 collaboration with the K-pop girl group 2NE1, directing the animated music video for their single "Hate You". The single topped charts and the music video, with eyedoll action heroines portraying each of the four members, received over twenty million YouTube views.

Yuko Hasegawa is the director of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa and professor of curatorial and art theory at Tokyo University of the Arts.

Ho Sin Tung is a visual artist who lives and works in Hong Kong.

Young In Hong is a visual artist from Seoul, Korea, based in Bristol, England. Hong graduated with an MA and a PhD in Art from Goldsmith College in London UK in 2012. From 1992 to 1998, she studied Sculpture at Seoul National University. Hong currently works from her studio at Spike Island in Bristol and is represented by PKM Gallery in Seoul. She teaches at Bath School of Art as Reader in Performance and Textiles.

Stella Zhang is a Chinese contemporary artist whose practice ranges from painting to sculpture and installation. Zhang is notable for her strong feminist approach in art-making. Her work is described as "a statement for women’s power and identity," Zhang is exhibited world-wide and collected by public institutions such as the National Art Museum of China, Beijing, China, Copelouzos Family Art Museum, Athens, Greece; and Tan Shin Fine Arts Museum, Tokyo, Japan. There are seven monographs focusing on her work, published by Chinese Culture Foundation of San Francisco, Si Chuan Art Press, EDGE Gallery, JKD Gallery, and Galerie du Monde. She is a guest lecturer at Stanford University and also teaches at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Serena Bocchino</span> American artist (born 1960)

Serena Bocchino is an American contemporary abstract artist working primarily in the realm of painting. Her highly expressionistic style shows a variety of influences from Abstract Expressionism and dance, to Fluxus and jazz music. Like her varied influences, her process is highly improvisational yet technically informed – consisting of language created through an intermingled vocabulary of color, media and technique.
