Serge Belongie (born c. 1980) is a professor of Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen, where he also serves as the head of the Danish Pioneer Centre for Artificial Intelligence. Previously, he was the Andrew H. and Ann R. Tisch Professor of Computer Science at Cornell Tech, where he also served as Associate Dean. He has also been a member of the Visiting Faculty program at Google. He is known for his contributions to the fields of computer vision and machine learning, specifically object recognition and image segmentation, with his scientific research in these areas cited over 150,000 times according to Google Scholar. Along with Jitendra Malik, Belongie proposed the concept of shape context, a widely used feature descriptor in object recognition. He has co-founded several startups in the areas of computer vision and object recognition. [1]
Belongie also serves as a board member of the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS), a renowned organization dedicated to fostering research excellence and collaboration in the realm of artificial intelligence across Europe.
Belongie received a PhD in electrical engineering and computer science from University of California, Berkeley in 2000, where he was advised by computer scientist Jitendra Malik. [2]
While an undergraduate student at California Institute of Technology, Belongie co-founded Digital Persona, Inc., which created what has been called "the world's first mass-market fingerprint identification device". [3] [4] Digital Persona was acquired by biometric identification company Crossmatch, Inc in 2014. [1] He has also been the co-founder of image recognition startup Anchovi Labs (acquired by Dropbox, Inc. in 2012 [5] ), and computer vision/video analysis company Orpix, Inc. [6] He is also an Expert in Residence at LDV Capital. [7] Belongie is the creator, along with Pietro Perona, of Visipedia, an image recognition platform that promises to combine computer and human capabilities to allow users to identify and annotate images. Belongie was a professor of Computer Science at University of California, San Diego between 2001 and 2013, where he was the director of the SO(3) Computer Vision Group. He joined Cornell Tech as a professor in 2014. At Cornell, he was the director of the SE(3) Computer Vision Group, [10] and a member of the Connected Experiences Laboratory. [11] While in San Diego, Belongie was the lead singer/bass player in a band named SO3, which achieved some local success at various clubs and bars.
From 2013 to 2021, Belongie was full professor of computer science at Cornell University.
In 2021, he moved to Denmark to become the director of the Danish Pioneer Centre for Artificial Intelligence, and professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen. [12]
The MIT Technology Review named Belongie to their list of Innovators under 35 for 2004. [4] In 2007, Belongie and his co-authors received a Marr Prize Honorable mention for a paper presented at International Conference on Computer Vision. In 2015, he was the recipient of the ICCV Helmholtz Prize, awarded to authors of papers that have made fundamental contributions to the field of computer vision. [13] Belongie also received an NSF Career Award and a Sloan Research Fellowship to support his research. [14]
Thomas Oriel Binford has been a researcher in image analysis and computer vision since 1967. He developed a model-based approach to computer vision in which complex objects are represented as collections of generalized cylinders. His results are reflected in work in other areas of research, including the interpretation of complex scenes using invariants and quasi-invariants, inference rules and evidential reasoning in extended Bayes networks of symbolic geometric constraints, the SUCCESSOR system, a portable, intelligent vision system, stereo and visual robot navigation, segmentation and feature estimation in complex images, color image analysis, surface material analysis, and image compression. He has led the development of numerous computer vision systems, including systems successfully employed in brain surgery on humans, high-precision automated machining, and helicopter navigation.

Caltech 101 is a data set of digital images created in September 2003 and compiled by Fei-Fei Li, Marco Andreetto, Marc 'Aurelio Ranzato and Pietro Perona at the California Institute of Technology. It is intended to facilitate computer vision research and techniques and is most applicable to techniques involving image recognition classification and categorization. Caltech 101 contains a total of 9,146 images, split between 101 distinct object categories and a background category. Provided with the images are a set of annotations describing the outlines of each image, along with a Matlab script for viewing.

He is known for his research in computer vision and is the director of the Caltech Computational Vision Group.
Demetri Terzopoulos is a Greek-Canadian-American computer scientist and entrepreneur. He is currently a Distinguished Professor and Chancellor's Professor of Computer Science in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he directs the UCLA Computer Graphics & Vision Laboratory.

He is best known for his seminal work in facial recognition and machine learning. He is the co-inventor of the Viola–Jones object detection framework along with Michael Jones. He won the Marr Prize in 2003 and the Helmholtz Prize from the International Conference on Computer Vision in 2013. He is the holder of at least 57 patents in the areas of advanced machine learning, web search, data mining, and image processing. He is the author of more than 50 academic research papers with over 56,000 citations.
Ashutosh Saxena is an Indian-American computer scientist, researcher, and entrepreneur known for his contributions to the field of artificial intelligence and large-scale robot learning. His interests include building enterprise AI agents and embodied AI. Saxena is the co-founder and CEO of Caspar.AI, where generative AI parses data from ambient 3D radar sensors to predict 20+ health & wellness markers for pro-active patient care.
