The Shahar Media Group is now a state run media firm in Kazakhstan which has several entertainment holdings across the country. The company is run by Nurali Nazarbayev, son of Dariga Nazarbayeva and grandson of Kazakh president Nursultan Nazarbayev. Kayrat Kulbayev is vice president, and manages the company interests including local music television network HiT TV.
Independent journalists from around the world have debated the leadership of the Shahar Media Group as the Kazakh government are taking steps to control all mass media in the country, [1] this issue was also juxtaposed with the head of "Alma-Media Group" Rakhat Aliyev who is the husband of Dariga Nazarbayeva and deputy foreign minister to Kazakhstan.
Nursultan Abishuly Nazarbayev or Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev is a Kazakh politician who served as the first President of Kazakhstan, in office from 24 April 1990 until his formal resignation on 20 March 2019, and as the Chairman of the Security Council of Kazakhstan from 21 August 1991 to 5 January 2022, holding the title Elbasy since 14 June 2010. Dariga Nursultanqyzy Nazarbayeva is a Kazakh businesswoman and politician who is the daughter of the first President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. She has been a member of the Mazhilis since 15 January 2021 to 25 February 2022, a post that she occupied from 2004 to 2007 and 2012 to 2015. She was Deputy Chair of Mazhilis from 2014 to 2015 until being appointed as a Deputy Prime Minister under Massimov's cabinet. In 2016, Nazarbayeva became a member Senate of Kazakhstan in 2016. She served as the Senate Chair from 2019 to 2020. Nazarbayeva is the eldest daughter of Nursultan Nazarbayev who was the President of Kazakhstan from 1990 to 2019.

Asar was a political party in Kazakhstan. In the 2004 Kazakh legislative election, the party won 11.4% of the popular vote and 4 out of 77 seats in the Mazhilis. Snap presidential elections were held in Kazakhstan on 9 June 2019 to elect the President of Kazakhstan following the resignation of long-term President Nursultan Nazarbayev in March 2019. The Sagintayev Cabinet was the 10th cabinet of the Government of Kazakhstan under the leadership of Prime Minister Bakhytzhan Sagintayev. It was formed after Sagintayev's predecessor, Karim Massimov was appointed as a head of the National Security Committee on 8 September 2016. President Nursultan Nazarbayev nominated Sagintayev, who served as the First Deputy under Massimov's government to be the new Prime Minister. The 21st Nur Otan Extraordinary Congress was held on 28 January 2022 to elect the new chairman of Nur Otan after former President Nursultan Nazarbayev announced in stepping down from leading the largest ruling party in Kazakhstan for more than 20 years in November 2021 and the days of turmoil conflict that took place in early January. The congress was conducted remotely and attended by 389 delegates. For the first time since 1999, the Nur Otan unanimously elected incumbent President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev as its new party leader.
