Shalimar rail yard served as a terminus for goods trains and hosted a rail yard since its inception in 1883. In recent years, it has been brought into the network of passenger train stations, developing into Shalimar Station, to reduce pressure on Howrah Station. Apart from suburban trains, few long-distance trains have been introduced or moved over here (from Howrah station). It is under Kharagpur railway division. Shalimar still serves as an important transshipment point in Kolkata. Shalimar also has port side domestic container terminals. An additional container terminal is also proposed there. [1]

Coromandel Express is one of the flagship trains of the Indian Railways, which runs down the east coast of India between Shalimar (SHM) in West Bengal and Chennai Central (MAS) in Tamil Nadu on daily basis. Earlier it used to run between Howrah and Chennai Central Coromandal Superfast Express by connecting the Capitals of Tamilnadu & West Bengal. But after January 2022, it's terminal was changed to Shalimar instead of Howrah. At present it runs as Shalimar - Chennai Central Coromandal Superfast Express. It is one of the first earliest Superfast in the history of IR. Most of the people going to Chennai prefer this train as the train arrives earlier than the Howrah–Chennai Mail. The train runs jam-packed throughout the year.

Royapuram railway station is a railway station at Royapuram, on the Chennai Beach–Walajapet section of the Chennai Suburban Railway network in Chennai, India. It is the second oldest railway station currently operational in India after Howrah railway station situated in Howrah, West Bengal and the first railway station of South India. The first train of South India started operating in June 1856 from Royapuram railway station. The station also remained the headquarters of the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway till 1922, when the headquarters was shifted to Egmore. Since the original structures of Bombay and Thane stations no longer exist, Royapuram station remains the oldest railway station in the entire subcontinent.
The Secunderabad–Shalimar Express is a Superfast AC Express train of the Indian Railways connecting Secunderabad (SC) to Kolkata Shalimar (SHM). It is handled by the South Central Railway zone (SCR). The train was announced in the 2012 Annual Railway Budget of India and its rake was rolled out in September 2012. The train stops at 14 stations en route, connecting major cities like Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar and Kharagpur. The train runs weekly. The train was flagged off from Secunderabad on 28 May 2013 at 11:00 am by Kotla Jayasurya Prakasha Reddy, the then Minister of State of Railways and Anjan Kumar Yadav, an MP from Secunderabad.

Dadri railway station is a small railway station serving the city of Dadri in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh, India, on the Delhi–Aligarh–Kanpur main line, on the outskirts of Ghaziabad and 50 kilometers east of Delhi. Its station code in Indian Railways terminology is DER. Dadri is a wayside station at which only a few commuter trains stop. The station consists of four platforms which are not well sheltered and lack most facilities including sanitation. Electronic interlocking and massive yard remodelling has been commissioned at Dadri station.
