Shamshad Pathan

Shamshad Pathan is an Indian human rights lawyer and politician based in Ahmedabad. He was affiliated with Jan Sangharsh Manch as an activist, and with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) as the party's Gujarat vice-president. [1] [2]

Career

Pathan represented Muslim victims of 2002 Gujarat riots in several high profile cases. [3] [4] He has represented victims of manuel scavenging and slum-dwellers against eviction bids. [5] [6]

Pathan was attacked with a knife in Jamalpur area of Ahmedabad in March 2022 after he tried to intervene in a fight. He was treated at SVP Hospital. [2] [7]

Pathan resigned from AIMIM in April 2022 alleging that the party's Gujarat state president was taking decision unilaterally and not interested in strengthening the political outfit. [8] [9] A few days later, 21 AIMIM office-bearers from Ahmedabad also resigned from the party. [10]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mukul Sinha</span> Indian human rights activist (1951 – 2014)

Mukul Sinha was an Indian human rights activist and a lawyer at the Gujarat High Court in Ahemdabad. He was an active trade union leader and a trained physicist. He legally represented the families of the individuals who were killed in Gujarat following the 2002 riots and in Manipur, in which he secured convictions of the politicians and police officers involved. Along with his wife Nirjhari Sinha, he founded and served as the president of Jan Sangharsh Manch, an independent civil rights organization with the aim of addressing issues of labour and workers rights. He was also a vocal critic of erstwhile Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Rahul Sharma is an ex Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Gujarat cadre turned practicing lawyer with Gujarat High Court. He was inducted into the service in 1992. He played a crucial role in policing operations during the 2002 Gujarat riots. He was seconded to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2004, and served there for the next three years. Later, he served as the DIG at Rajkot, Gujarat until seeking voluntary retirement from active service in 2015.

<i>Namaste Trump</i> 2020 visit of Donald Trump to India

Namaste Trump was a tour event held on 24 and 25 February 2020 in India. It was the inaugural visit of the then US President Donald Trump and his family to India. A rally event of the same name was held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and was the highlight of the tour, as a response to the "Howdy Modi" event held in Houston, Texas, in September 2019. The Motera Stadium hosted US President Trump and his family along with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. An attendance of over 100,000 people was reported, with some speculating an attendance as high as 125,000. The tour was originally named "Kem Chho Trump" but was renamed by the Government of India to promote Indian nationalism over regionalism.

Aditya Gadhvi is a playback singer and lyricist hailing from Gujarat, India. He has rendered numerous chart-topping songs in various Indian languages. He is involved in Gujarati film scoring and has released a number of singles. Among his recent notable tracks are Khalasi, Rang Morla, the Gujarat Titans anthem Aava De, and several others.

Local elections were held in the Indian state of Gujarat in 2021. Elections were held for 8,235 seats, with 237 seats having only one unopposed candidates. No form was filled for two seats in Taluka panchayat. The elections included six municipal corporations where elections took place in February — Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar – and one (Gandhinagar) in which the elections were held on 3 October. Results to Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation were declared on 5 October 2021.

The 2024 elections in India includes the general election and elections to the Rajya Sabha, to state legislative assemblies, to Panchayats and urban local bodies.

Himanshi Bhaveshbhai Rathi is an Indian para chess player from Gujarat. She was part of the Indian team for the women's chess B1 category at the 2022 Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, China. She is a visually challenged chess player. Along with Sanskruti More, Vruthi Jain, the trio won the women's team rapid VI-B1 bronze medal.
