Shane Dix (born 1960 in Wales [1] ) is an Australian science fiction author best known for his collaborative work with Sean Williams in the Star Wars : New Jedi Order series. [2]

Science fiction is a genre of speculative fiction that has been called the "literature of ideas". It typically deals with imaginative and futuristic concepts such as advanced science and technology, time travel, parallel universes, fictional worlds, space exploration, and extraterrestrial life. It often explores the potential consequences of scientific innovations.

An author is the creator or originator of any written work such as a book or play, and is also considered a writer. More broadly defined, an author is "the person who originated or gave existence to anything" and whose authorship determines responsibility for what was created.

Sean Williams (author) Australian writer

Sean Llewellyn Williams is a New York Times best selling science fiction author who lives in Adelaide, South Australia. He is the author of over eighty published short stories and thirty-nine novels, including Twinmaker and the Troubletwisters series. He has co-written three books in the Star Wars: New Jedi Order series and is a multiple recipient of both the Ditmar and Aurealis Awards. His novelisation of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was the first novelisation of a computer game to debut at #1 on the "New York Times" bestseller list.

In addition to his novels with Sean Williams, Dix has had short stories published in various magazines and anthologies, including Aurealis: Australian Fantasy & Science Fiction, Eidolon: The Journal of Australian Science Fiction and Fantasy, Borderlands, Twenty3 : A Miscellany (1998), and Alien Shores: An Anthology of Australian Science Fiction (1994). While primarily known for his science-fiction work, since 2007 Dix has been branching out into other genres and fields of writing with a number of original novels. Four of these manuscripts are now complete, and he is currently looking for an agent to represent them.

His daughter Katelin Dix is also a writer, with promising work in both teenage and fantasy fiction.

Star Wars: The New Jedi Order is a series of nineteen science fiction novels, published from 1999 to 2003, set in the Star Wars expanded universe. The series revolves around the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of the galaxy 21–26 years after the events depicted in Return of the Jedi. The New Jedi Order was the restored and reformed Jedi organization, in the wake of the Great Jedi Purge and subsequent fall of the Galactic Empire. The Jedi Knights, reduced in number to only a handful, were slowly restored, primarily under the leadership of Luke Skywalker. Additional stories, generally published as e-book novellas and comic books, take the total number of published NJO-related stories to twenty-six.

The Aurealis Awards are presented annually by the Australia-based Chimaera Publications and WASFF to published works in order to "recognise the achievements of Australian science fiction, fantasy, horror writers". To qualify, a work must have been first published by an Australian citizen or permanent resident between 1 January and 31 December of the corresponding year; the presentation ceremony is held the following year. It has grown from a small function of around 20 people to a two-day event attended by over 200 people.

The Ditmar Award is Australia's oldest and best-known science fiction, fantasy and horror award, presented annually at the Australian "NatCon" since 1969. The historical nominations and results of the Award follow.
