Shankar Saini (born 8 July 1964) is an Indian former cricketer. He played twenty first-class matches for Delhi between 1986 and 1991. [1]

Saini is a caste of North India who were traditionally landowners (zamindars) and farmers. Sainis claim to be descendants of a king, Shurasena, as well as of Krishna and Porus, and to be related to the ancient Shoorsaini clan, noted in Puranic literature. Saini community is given representation in government jobs and education institutes under Other Backward Class (OBC) category in states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The 1901 census noted that people using the Shoorsaini name were by then found only in Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi. Sainis also claim themselves to be Mali Rajputs.

The Delhi cricket team is one of the first-class cricket teams based in Delhi, run by the Delhi District Cricket Association, that plays in India's domestic competition, the Ranji Trophy. They have won the tournament seven times and have been runners-up eight. Their latest title in 2007-08 came after a long wait of 16 years. The previous win was in the 1991-92 season when they beat Tamil Nadu in the final. The team's home ground is Arun Jaitley Stadium. Shankar Vihar metro station

The Shankar Vihar metro station is a stop on the Magenta Line of the Delhi Metro. This represents part of the third phase of development of the Delhi Metro. It was opened to public on 29 May 2018. It is the only station in the Delhi Metro network where free movement of civilians is restricted, as it falls in the Delhi Cantonment area and "right in heart of defence zone".
