The Jatiya Sangsad,often simply referred to as Sangsad and also known as the House of the Nation,is the supreme legislative body of Bangladesh. The current parliament of Bangladesh contains 350 seats,including 50 seats reserved exclusively for women. Elected occupants are called members of Parliament,or MPs. The 12th national parliamentary election was held on 7 January 2024. Elections to the body are held every five years,unless a parliament is dissolved earlier by the President of Bangladesh.

The Jatiya Party is a political party in Bangladesh self-describing as conservative,and is currently the main opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad,against the Awami League. The current chairman of the party is Ghulam Muhammed Quader. On 3 January 2019,the party announced its decision to join the Bangladesh Awami League-led Grand Alliance after having been in opposition for the previous parliamentary term. However,the party backtracked the next day and announced that it intended to remain part of the opposition. Currently,it holds Rangpur out of Bangladesh's 12 city corporations. The current chairperson of the party is Ghulam Muhammed Quader MP.

The legislature represented by the Jatiya Sangsad and the judiciary,represented by the Supreme Court. Ghulam Muhammed Quader,better known as GM Quader,is a Bangladeshi politician and the 2nd chairperson of Jatiya Party and Opposition Leader of Bangladesh Parliament. He was the incumbent Jatiya Sangsad member from the Lalmonirhat-3 constituency. He served as the Minister of Commerce and Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism from 2009 to 2014.

He served as the Cabinet Minister for Energy during Ershad's regime in the 1980s. He was appointed an advisor to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in November 2013.
