Sharon Nunes

Sharon Nunes retired in 2012 from her position as the Vice President of Big Green Innovations for IBM Corporation. [1] She was inducted into the Women in Technology International Hall of Fame in 2009. [2]

Career

Nunes led the Big Green Innovations organization which includes IT leaders around the world developing solutions in water management, carbon management and photovoltaics. She was with IBM for 28 years in many positions including as the Vice President of Technology and has worked closely with IBM's Chairman and senior executive team to set the technology agenda for IBM. [2] [3] In the year 2000, she was one of the executive leaders of the Life Sciences business unit when it launched. In 1997, she launched IBM's Computational Biology Center.

Committees and boards

Nunes is a leader on IBM's Women in Technology Executive Committee. In 2007, she launched the Technical Women's Leadership Forum for IBM. She is also a member of IBM's executive advisory council for the Society of Women Engineers. [3] [2] She is a member of the University of Connecticut Engineering Advisory Board and the Board of Directors for the University of Connecticut Foundation. [2] Dr Nunes is a member of the Cape Cod Technology Council (CCTC), a member of the K-12 Committee of the CCTC and a volunteer mentor and coach for the Cape Cod StartUp Weekend program. [1] 2

Nunes received her M.S. (1980) and her Ph.D. (1983) in Materials Science at University of Connecticut. [2] She currently lives on Cape Cod. [4]

Women in Technology International (WITI) is an organization promoting the achievements of women in technology and extending support, opportunities, and inspiration. It was founded by Carolyn Leighton in 1989 as the International Network of Women in Technology. It was renamed to the WITI Professional Association in 2001 when it acted as a trade association for women in technology.

Yukako Uchinaga is a Japanese businesswoman, best known for her long career at IBM Japan.

Rhonda Childress is an IBM Fellow Vice President of GTS. She has earned the title of being the first Services woman to be called an IBM Master Inventor, Security Fellow, and the first Fellow from a predominantly African-American college from spending her whole career in SO. She was also the first IBM fellow from a Historical Black University. Childress is a prolific inventor with over 200 patents, 130 of which are related to the management of systems, cyber security, mobile, aircraft, and IoT. In 2018, she was inducted into the WITI Hall of Fame for her efforts in her career at IBM. Childress is one of 25 female IBM fellow in IBM's history.
