Shida (Chinese :師大) is a neighborhood in Daan District, Taipei, Taiwan. It is located adjacent to the southern end of Yongkang Street. It houses the main campus of National Taiwan Normal University (國立臺灣師範大學; hence the name of the neighborhood), making it an area with a high percentage of both Taiwanese and international students. Shida is primarily served by Taipei Metro Guting Station.

Taiwanese night markets are street markets in Taiwan that operate in urban or suburban areas between sunset and sunrise. Night markets in Taiwan are similar to those in areas inhabited by ethnic Han. A few, such as Huaxi Street Tourist Night Market, utilize purpose-built marketplaces, but most occupy either sidewalks or even entire streets that carry vehicle and pedestrian traffic by day. Some night markets in smaller side streets and alleys feature retractable roofs. Most night markets operate daily and feature a mixture of individual stalls selling clothing, consumer goods, xiaochi, and specialty drinks. The atmosphere is usually crowded and noisy with hawkers shouting and fast-paced music playing over loudspeakers. Taiwanese night markets have evolved over the years from small local gatherings to noisy streets lined with vendors. These vendors must adhere to regulations placed on their activities by the Taiwanese government.

Puru (artist)

Puru, also known as Pu Xinyu 溥心畬, Xinyu being his courtesy name, and Xishan Yishi 西山逸士, which is his sobriquet, was a traditional Chinese painter, calligrapher and nobleman. A member of the Manchu Aisin Gioro clan, the ruling house of the Qing dynasty, he was a cousin to Puyi, the last Emperor of China. It was speculated that Puru would have succeeded to the Chinese throne if Puyi and the Qing government were not overthrown after the 1911 Xinhai Revolution.

Xiu Zelan, also written as Hsiu Tse-Lan, was a Taiwanese architect. Xue was born in Yuanling, Hunan. During World War II she attended the Architecture Department of National Central University in Chongqing. In 1947 she entered the Taiwan Rail Bureau. She took charge of the Department of General Logistics and Engineering as an assistant engineer. Her modernist interpretations of traditional motifs gained the attention of Chiang Kai-shek, and in 1965 she took charge of Yangmingshan's Chung-Shan Building project. Designed to house state ceremonies, the Chung-Shan Building brought Xiu acclaim and the project was subsequently considered to be one of her crowning achievements and earned the popular title "Number 1 Female Architect of Taiwan". Subsequently on April 30, 1967, Xiu was awarded the first Golden Tripod Award for Architecture. In 2015, on the 50th anniversary of the Chung-Shan Building's completion, she was presented with a certificate of gratitude from the Taiwanese government.
