Morganton is a city in and county seat of Burke County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 17,474 at the 2020 census. Morganton is approximately 75 miles (121 km) northwest of Charlotte and 57 miles (92 km) east of Asheville.

Anti-LGBT curriculum laws are laws approved by various U.S. states that prohibit or limit the mention or discussion of homosexuality and transgender identity in public schools, especially in younger grades. In theory, these laws mainly apply to sex ed courses, but they can also be applied to other parts of the school curriculum as well as to extracurricular activities such as sports and organizations such as gay–straight alliances. In July 2022, a wave of anti-LGBT curriculum resurgence saw ten such laws beginning to take effect in six different states. Some states enacting these new laws appear to have mirrored similar laws from other states.
Steve Marshall is an American lawyer serving as the 48th attorney general of Alabama. He was appointed in February 2017 by Governor Robert J. Bentley to fill the vacancy created by previous attorney general Luther Strange's appointment to the United States Senate. He was elected to a full term in 2018, and was re-elected in 2022. He previously served as district attorney in Marshall County for 16 years.

Mark Keith Robinson is an American politician who has served as the 35th lieutenant governor of North Carolina since 2021. He is the first African American to hold the office of lieutenant governor in North Carolina. He is the Republican nominee for Governor of North Carolina in the 2024 election. Robinson defeated Democratic nominee Yvonne Lewis Holley in the 2020 lieutenant gubernatorial election. Robinson has promoted various far-right conspiracy theories, has engaged in Holocaust denial, and has often made inflammatory anti-LGBT, antisemitic, racist, anti-atheist, and Islamophobic statements.
Matthew E. Ammon is an American civil servant who served as the acting United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in the Biden administration from January to March 2021. Ammon served an interim capacity until Biden's nominee, Marcia Fudge, was confirmed by the United States Senate on March 10, 2021.
