Shivangi Pathak is an Indian mountaineer born in Hisar, Haryana in August 2002. [1] At age 16, she became India's youngest person to climb the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, on 16 May 2018 from the Nepal side. [2] [3] [4] She climbed Russia's highest peak Mount Elbrus in Europe on 2 September 2018. [5] She also climbed the highest peak of Africa, Kilimanjaro, on 24 July 2018 at the age of 17. [6]

Early life

Pathak was born in Hisar of Haryana in north-western India. [7]

Everest climb

Training for climbing Mt. Everest, included climbing Stok Khangri, a 6,053-metre peak in Ladakh. [8] On 17 May 2018 become the youngest Indian woman to climb the Mount Everest [9]

Her ascent of the peak began in April 2018 from the Nepal base camp of Everest, [10] the entire Everest expedition took one month. [11]

She was honored with the Bal Shakti Puraskar 2019. [12] [13]

Ganesh Chandra Jena is a mountaineer from Odisha, India. He reached the peak of Mount Everest on 18 May 2011 as the first male from the eastern state of Orissa. Two other Indians in his team were Amit Kumar from Haryana and Jackie Jack from Rajasthan. The team was headed by Anshu Jamsenpa, 32. After Kalpana Dash, Ganesh Jena achieved this feat as the second Oriya and the first male person from Odisha "Willpower, patience and determination hold the key to success. My target is to scale the Everest twice in one season," he said to media persons after his successful Everest mission.

Malavath Poorna is an Indian mountaineer. On 25 May 2014, Poorna climbed Mount Everest, aged 13 years and 11 months, the youngest Indian and youngest female to have reached the summit. Purna climbed Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe on 27 July 2017. After reaching the summit of Elbrus, Poorna unfurled a 50 ft long Indian Tricolor and sang the Indian National Anthem. She completed the Seven Summits on 5 June 2022 climbing Mount Denali, along with father-daughter duo Ajeet Bajaj and Deeya Bajaj.

Mamta Sodha is an Indian sportsperson, known for her successful 2010 attempt to scale Mount Everest. She was honoured by the Government of India, in 2014, by bestowing on her the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, for her services to the field of mountaineering sport.

Sangeeta Sindhi Bahl became the oldest Indian woman to have scaled the world's tallest peak, when she summitted Mount Everest in May 2018, at the age of 53 years. She also became the first woman from the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir to scale the mountain. Bahl is a former Miss India finalist.

Narender Singh Yadav is an Indian mountaineer. He is best known for his controversial climbing expedition to Mount Everest in May 2016, where he claimed to have summitted the mountain but had recognition of this attempt stripped years later after discrepancies were noticed which indicated he had faked the summit, leading to his 2020 Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award being revoked and a ban from the mountain for six years from the climbing date by the Nepali government in 2021. In May 2022, soon after his ban expired, he again went to Everest and successfully reached the summit with ample proof that he had actually done so.
