The 2008 Summer Paralympic Games, the 13th Paralympics, took place in Beijing, China from September 6 to 17, 2008. As with the 2008 Summer Olympics, equestrian events were held in Hong Kong and sailing events in Qingdao.
The Beijing Shooting Range Hall is a shooting hall located in Shijingshan District, Beijing. It hosted the qualifying rounds and finals of ten shooting events at the 2008 Summer Olympics, consisting of all 10-, 25- and 50-metre events. It was the venue of the first gold medal awarded at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The entire shooting sports events for the 2008 Summer Paralympics were also held at this venue.

Michael Johnson, also known as Mike Johnson, MNZM is a New Zealand Paralympic shooter. He started target shooting in 2002 and his first international competition was Oceania 2002, where he competed against other SH2 shooters; Johnson ended up with a fourth placing. However, at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in the SH2 Standing Air event, Johnson shot a perfect 600 out of 600 points world record round in the preliminaries and then equalled the world record for a gold medal in the finals with 704.3.
Shooting at the 2008 Summer Paralympics consisted of twelve events. The competition was held in the Beijing Shooting Range Hall from 7 September to 12 September.
Elizabeth "Libby" Dudley Kosmala, OAM is an Australian shooter with paraplegia. She has represented Australia at twelve Paralympics from 1972 to 2016, and has won thirteen medals, nine of them gold.
