Lt. Shubhangi Swaroop (born 17 January 1995) in Tilhar Uttar Pradesh is the first female pilot of the Indian Navy. She is a pilot of Maritime reconnaissance aircraft in Indian Navy. [2] [3]

Career

Lt. Shubhangi has been part of the first batch of female officers to graduate from the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kannur in 2017. [4]

She holds degree in Biotechnology Engineering from Vellore Institute of Technology in Tamil Nadu and took training from Air Force Academy (India) in Hyderabad. [5] [6] She is also a national taekwondo champion. [7] She is one amongst the Indian Navy's first batch of three women pilots for Maritime Reconnaissance (MR) missions on Dornier aircraft. [8] [9]

She hails from Tilhar, Uttar Pradesh, India. Her father Cdr. Gyan Swaroop is a naval officer and her mother Mrs.Kalpana Swaroop is a teacher at Navy Children School, Karwar. [10] [11]

Women in the Pakistan Armed Forces are the female officers who serve in the Pakistan Armed Forces. Women have been taking part in Pakistani military since 1947, after the establishment of Pakistan. Flight Lt. Harita Kaur Deol was a pilot with the Indian Air Force. She was the first woman pilot to fly solo in the Indian Air Force. The flight was on 2 September 1994 in an Avro HS-748, when she was 22 years old.

Kiran Shekhawat was the first Indian Navy woman officer to be killed in the line of duty. On a flight as an observer with the Indian Navy, the woman Naval officer was martyred in a Dornier crash off the Goa coast on 24 March 2015. Lt. Shekhawat was the wife of another Naval officer, Vivek Chhoker.

Squadron Leader Avani Chaturvedi is an Indian pilot from Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh. She was declared as the first female combat pilot in India along with two of her cohorts, Mohana Singh Jitarwal, and Bhawana Kanth. The trio was inducted into the Indian Air Force fighter squadron in June 2016. They were formally commissioned by then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on 18 June 2016, to serve the nation.

Bhawana Kanth is one of the first female fighter pilots of India. She was declared as the first combat pilot along with two of her cohort, Mohana Singh, and Avani Chaturvedi. The trio was inducted into the Indian Air Force fighter squadron in June 2016. They were formally commissioned by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. After the government of India decided to open the fighter stream in India Air Force for women on an experimental basis, these three women were the first to be selected for the program.

In the Indian Armed Forces women are allowed to join in combat service support branches and in non combatant roles only and they can only become officers except the Corps of Military Police of the Indian Army where women can become sepoys too. The Indian Air Force had 13.09% female officers in 2018 and 8.50% female officers in 2014; the Indian Navy had 6% female officers in 2018 and 3% female officers in 2014 and the Indian Army had 3.80% female officers in 2018 and 3% female officers in 2014. Lieutenant Shivangi is an Indian serving in the Indian Navy. Lt. Shivangi hails from Fetehabad Village of Muzaffarpur District, Bihar and previously flew the pilatus aircraft. Lt shivangi and flight Lt shivangi Singh are two different people.

The Indian Naval Air Squadron 313 is a maritime reconnaissance squadron of the Indian Navy based at Chennai. The squadron was commissioned on 22 July 2019 and operates the Dornier 228 twin-turboprop aircraft under the Eastern Naval Command of the Navy.

Sub-Lieutenant Riti Singh Bhatia is a serving officer in the Indian Navy. She is one of the first two women, along with Sub-Lieutenant Kumudini Tyagi, to have earned their wings for operating from warships.

Lieutenant Commander Prerna Deosthalee is a serving officer in the Indian Navy. She is the first woman officer to command an Indian Naval Warship. She is also the first female observer of the Navy on the Tupolev Tu-142 maritime reconnaissance aircraft.
