The Sigatoka River is in the island of Viti Levu in Fiji and has its source on the west side of Mount Victoria and flows for 120 kilometers to the coast between the central and western ranges. It is the chief means of transportation with some parts of the interior of the island. [1]
The Sigatoka Sand Dunes are at the mouth of the river, and the Nadarivatu Dam was completed in 2012 in its headwaters.
Sigatoka River was historically the only means of transport from the Fijian coast to the island's lush interior. The river provided locals for fisheries, as well as water for agriculture and drinking.
During the Colo Wars, the valley around the Sigatoka River became a bastion for hill tribes who resisted British rule.
From 1912 to 1923, banana plantations in the Sigatoka River Valley suffered severe episodes of a fungal infection called Mycosphaerella musicola , also known as the Yellow Sigatoka disease.

Fiji, officially the Republic of Fiji, is an island country in Melanesia, part of Oceania in the South Pacific Ocean. It lies about 1,100 nautical miles north-northeast of New Zealand. Lautoka is the second largest city in Fiji. It is on the west coast of the island of Viti Levu, in the Ba Province of the Western Division. Lying in the heart of Fiji's sugar cane-growing region, the city has come to be known as the Sugar City. Covering an area of 32 square kilometres, it had a population of 71,573 at the 2017 census, the most recent to date.

Ba is a town in Fiji, 37 kilometres from Lautoka and 62 kilometres from Nadi, inland from the coast of Viti Levu, Fiji's largest island. Covering an area of 327 square kilometres, it had a population of 14,596 at the 1996 census. The town is built on the banks of the Ba River, after which it is named. For a long time, Ba was famous for its soccer team which caused major traffic problems. The old bridge was washed away in the floods of 1990s and a new bridge built downstream. This resulted in the main highway bypassing Ba Town. Jiaxing City in China is Ba Town's sister city.
Sigatoka is a town in Fiji. It is on the island of Viti Levu at the mouth of the Sigatoka River, for which it is named, some 61 kilometres from Nadi. Its population at the 2017 census was 17,622. It is the principal urban centre for the province of Nadroga-Navosa.
Gau is an island belonging to Fiji's Lomaiviti archipelago. Located at 18.00° S and 179.30 °E, it covers an area of 136.1 square kilometres, with a total shoreline that measures 66.3 kilometres long, making it the fifth largest island in the Fijian archipelago. Its maximum altitude is 738 metres (2,421 ft). To the north-west is Batiki, and to the north-east is Nairai.
Vuaqava is an outlier to Kabara, 5 kilometers to the SSW, in Fiji's Southern Lau Group. It occupies an area of 8.1 km2. This limestone island has a maximum altitude of 107 meters. The island is uninhabited but visited by fishermen.
Tavua is a town in Fiji, 91 kilometres from Nadi and 9 kilometres from the gold mining settlement of Vatukoula. It was formally incorporated as a Town in 1992 with the appointment of its first Mayor, Iliesa Vula from Tavualevu. The town covers a land area of 100 square kilometres, and had a population of 2,418 at the 1996 census.
Nadroga-Navosa is one of the fourteen provinces of Fiji and one of eight based in Viti Levu, Fiji's largest island. It is about 2,385 square kilometers and occupies the South-West and Central areas of Viti Levu, Fiji's principal island. The province includes the Mamanuca Archipelago,Malolo Islands, off the west coast of Viti Levu, Vatulele, as well as the remote Conway Reef in the southwest. The population at the 2017 census was 58,931, being the fifth largest province. The main town in Nadroga-Navosa is Sigatoka, with a population of 9622.
Shangri-La's Fijian Resort is a luxury resort located at Yanuca Island, on Viti Levu island, Cuvu, Sigatoka, Fiji. Currently managed by Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, the resort originally opened in 1967. After independence from the British, and going local was encouraged over expatriate management, Mr Andrew Thompson was appointed the first local General Manager at the young age of 27. He took the resort to new heights and since then, the fijian as it was known then has never looked back.
The Viti Levu giant pigeon or Fiji giant ground pigeon is an extinct flightless pigeon of Viti Levu, the largest island in Fiji. It was only slightly smaller than the dodo and Rodrigues solitaire and is the first giant flightless pigeon to be discovered on a Pacific island.
Tavua is a district in the Western Division on the north west coast of the island of Viti Levu in Fiji. It is part of the province of Ba. It is situated some 20 kilometers by road from Ba town. Its main economy is sugar cane, although the establishment of Tavua township was the result of a gold mine in Vatukoula, which is in the interior of Viti Levu but easily accessible from Tavua. A wharf, used by the mine, also exists at Vatia a few kilometres near the coast. The wharf is of historical significance as it was used as the main route of transportation from Suva to the western districts before the coastal road was built. The district is home to Tavua F.C., who play at [[Garvey Park (Fiji)] in Tavua.

The Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park is located at the mouth of the Sigatoka River on the island of Viti Levu in Fiji. They are located approximately 3 km west of the town of Sigatoka.
Mix FM is a radio station that serves Fiji, broadcasting on the FM band at the frequencies of 93.8 MHz in Lautoka, Nadi and Suva and 93.6 MHz in Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki and Sigatoka. The station has been licensed to broadcast all over Fiji since 2006. It launched in 2007. It is preferred by older urban populations.
Coral Coast is the stretch of coastline between Sigatoka and Suva, on the island of Viti Levu, in Fiji.
Severe Tropical Cyclone Oscar was one of the worst tropical cyclones to affect Fiji. The system was first noted as a shallow depression on 23 February, while it was located to the north of Fiji's capital Suva. The system subsequently developed further as it moved westwards and was named as Tropical Cyclone Oscar during the next day. Over the next few days Oscar subsequently intensified as it moved westwards and gradually developed further and equivalent to a Category 3 severe tropical cyclone, on the modern day Australian tropical cyclone intensity scale during 27 February. The system subsequently turned and started to move south-eastwards towards Fiji.

Jasa Veremalua is a Fijian rugby union player who plays for the Tel Aviv Heat. He played for San Diego Legion in Major League Rugby (MLR). He also plays for the Fiji sevens team. Veremalua made his debut for Fiji 7s at the 2013 Wellington Sevens. He is from Korotogo Village in the Nadroga Navosa Province.
