Sikorsky Credit Union is a state-chartered credit union headquartered in Stratford, Connecticut, that was founded in 1948. [1] It was started to serve the employees of Sikorsky Aircraft, as well as their immediate family. Membership was expanded to cover all residents of Fairfield County, Hartford County and New Haven County in Connecticut. [2]

Sikorsky Credit Union is a member of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and the SUM ATM network.

Igor Ivanovich Sikorsky was a Russian–American aviation pioneer in both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. His first success came with the S-2, the second aircraft of his design and construction. His fifth airplane, the S-5, won him national recognition as well as F.A.I. license number 64. His S-6-A received the highest award at the 1912 Moscow Aviation Exhibition, and in the fall of that year the aircraft won first prize for its young designer, builder and pilot in the military competition at Saint Petersburg.

The Sikorsky R-4 is a two-seat helicopter that was designed by Igor Sikorsky with a single, three-bladed main rotor and powered by a radial engine. The R-4 was the world's first large-scale mass-produced helicopter and the first helicopter used by the United States Army Air Forces, the United States Navy, the United States Coast Guard and the United Kingdom's Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. In U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard service, the helicopter was known as the Sikorsky HNS-1. In British service it was known as the Hoverfly.

Nichols, Connecticut Village in Trumbull, Connecticut

Nichols, a historic village in southeastern Trumbull in Fairfield County, Connecticut, is named after the family who maintained a large farm in its center for almost 300 years. The Nichols Farms Historic District, which encompasses part of the village, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally home to the Golden Hill Paugussett Indian Nation, the area was colonized by the English during the Great Migration of the 1630s as a part of the coastal settlement of Stratford. The construction of the Merritt Parkway through the village, and the subsequent closing of stores and factories, turned the village into a bedroom community in 1939. Aviation pioneer Igor Sikorsky lived in three separate homes in Nichols during his active years between 1928 and 1951, when he designed, built and flew fixed-wing aircraft and put the helicopter into mass production for the first time.

The Washington Bridge, also known as the Devon Bridge, carries U.S. Route 1 (US 1) over the Housatonic River in the U.S. state of Connecticut, connecting the city of Milford to the town of Stratford. Its geographic location is N 41.20037 by W −73.11039. It is considered architecturally notable by the National Register of Historic Places for its five 100-foot-long (30 m) arches. Sikorsky Firefly Type of aircraft

The Sikorsky Firefly is an all-electric helicopter built for research purposes by Sikorsky Aircraft. It has been called the world's "first all-electric helicopter". The Firefly is a modified Sikorsky S-300C helicopter with its engine replaced by an electric motor and two lithium-ion battery packs. The helicopter can hold only the pilot, no passengers, and operate for 12 to 15 minutes. It has a top speed of 80 kn.

The Connecticut Air & Space Center is a non-profit aviation museum that displays vintage aircraft, memorabilia, and artifacts that pertain to Connecticut. Founded by George Gunther in 1998, the museums' motto is to: "Honor, Preserve, & Educate". After the closing of the Stratford Army Engine Plant, in Stratford, Connecticut, the museum received a "right of entry" to a portion of the plant and began collecting and restoring airframes. Currently the Connecticut Air & Space Center occupies Buildings 6 and 53 at the former Stratford Army Engine Plant complex, and the 1929 Curtiss Hangar across the street at the airport. The museum is one of only a handful throughout the country to be located in a portion of an original WWII Aircraft Factory and a vintage Golden Age era Hangar.

Oronoque is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. It is in the northern part of the town, bordered to the north by the city of Shelton, to the east by the Housatonic River, and to the south by the Merritt Parkway. Connecticut Route 110 runs north–south through the community. The administrative offices of Sikorsky Aircraft are in the eastern part of the CDP, between Route 110 and the Housatonic River.
