Silencer is the debut studio album by New Zealand rock band Zed. The album was first released in New Zealand on 27 August 2000,via Universal Music Group. The album debuted at number one on the Official New Zealand Top 40 Albums chart,quickly achieving triple platinum status,and creating six hit singles. "Renegade Fighter" was also the number one song in New Zealand for the year 2000. [1] Early in 2001,a bonus disc edition with ten bonus tracks and the music videos for "Renegade Fighter," "Come On Down," and "Driver's Side" was made available.
The album was produced and engineered by David Nicholas at Revolver Studios in Auckland,New Zealand,with final overdubbing and mixing at Mangrove Studios,north of Sydney. [2] Recording sessions were over in seven weeks,but not before all band members and production staff were struck by influenza. [1]
"Oh! Daisy" was released in December 1998 and debuted at No.49 on the New Zealand Singles Chart,before peaking at No.15 in January 1999. Second single "I'm Cold" was released in July 1999 and peaked at No.19. Their third single "Glorafilia" released in December 1999 was the first to peak inside the Top 10,and spent 4 non-consecutive weeks inside there peaking at No.9. They followed this up with another Top 10 hit,with "Renegade Fighter" released in August 2000 and peaking at No.4 and spending 8 weeks within the Top 10. This is their highest peaking single to date. Follow up single "Come On Down" released in November 2000 continued their string of Top 20 hits,peaking at No.12,however the albums final single "Driver's Side" peaked at only No.36. [3]
Silencer debuted in the Official New Zealand Top 40 Albums chart on 27 August 2000 and peaked at number one. [4] The album spent a total of seventeen weeks on the chart in total,with the first nine weeks within the top ten. [4] The album achieved triple platinum status in New Zealand [1] and was the only number one local album for that year.
In 2001,Silencer earned the band three wins at the New Zealand Music Awards including 'Album of the Year','Top Group',and 'Top Male Vocalist'. [1]

OMC, or Otara Millionaires Club, were a New Zealand music group, then duo, with vocalist Pauly Fuemana later becoming the sole member. OMC was best known for the 1995 hit "How Bizarre", named one of the greatest New Zealander songs of all time by the Australasian Performing Right Association. The full name of the band is a tongue-in-cheek reference to Ōtara's status as one of the poorest suburbs of Auckland.
Zed is a New Zealand punk rock group, which formed as Supra in 1996 in Christchurch by Ben Campbell on bass guitar and triangle, Nathan King on lead vocals, guitar and trumpet, and Adrian Palmer on drums and percussion. In 2000 they added a second guitarist, Andrew Lynch. Their debut album, Silencer (2000), peaked at No. 1 on the New Zealand Albums Chart; while their second album, This Little Empire, reached No. 3. Their top 10 singles are "Glorafilia" (1999), "Renegade Fighter" (2000), and "Hard to Find Her" (2003). They toured New Zealand, Australia and United States before disbanding in 2004. They have reformed periodically including in 2017, 2019 and 2023.
Peter Wadams, better known by his stage name P-Money, is a New Zealand DJ and producer.
Nesian Mystik was a New Zealand hip-hop/R&B group which formed in 1999. The cultural backgrounds of its members united a remarkable diversity of Polynesia by bringing together Cook Island, Tongan, Samoan and Maori ancestry. As well as producing a record number of Top 10 New Zealand singles, Nesian Mystik supported international acts such as Robbie Williams, Missy Elliott, Shaggy and The Black Eyed Peas. The group officially disbanded in 2011 after a successful music career that included four commercially successful albums and numerous New Zealand Music Award nominations.
This Little Empire is the second studio album by New Zealand rock band Zed. It was produced by Sylvia Massy Shivy and Zed at Radiostar Studios in Weed, California, and engineered by Rich Veltrop and assisted by Josh Kiser. Unlike the band's debut 2000 release, Silencer, This Little Empire was predominantly produced for the American market, with a US edition and a New Zealand edition released. The track listing for the US edition contains tracks taken from their debut album. The album was released to the New Zealand market on November 11, 2003; and released internationally on August 23, 2004, via Interscope Records.
Nathan King is a musician, singer, and songwriter from Christchurch, New Zealand.
Tiki Taane is a New Zealand musician, experimentalist, musical activist, producer, and live engineer. He was a member of leading New Zealand band Salmonella Dub but left after eleven years on 1 January 2007 to pursue a solo career. His debut album, Past, Present, Future, was released on 22 October 2007 in New Zealand and has since gone two times platinum, achieving a number one single, "Always on My Mind", which became the first digital single to reach platinum sales and also held the record by staying in the NZ Top 40 Charts for 55 weeks. Taane is also the exclusive live sound engineer for New Zealand drum and bass act Shapeshifter since their first gig in 1999. Taane has also produced multi platinum albums for bands such as Six60, Shapeshifter, Salmonella Dub and Tiki Taane.

Strawpeople are a New Zealand band. They were created by Paul Casserly and Mark Tierney after they had met while working at the Auckland university radio station now known as 95 bFM. Over the years, Strawpeople has brought together various New Zealand songwriters, vocalists and musicians in a collaborative effort and achieved some success.

Karoline Fuarosa Park-Tamati, known professionally as Ladi6, is a New Zealand recording artist of Samoan descent. She spent six months living in Berlin and touring Europe in both 2010 and 2011. Her debut album Time Is Not Much debuted at number 4 on the New Zealand Top 40 Album chart. and her second album The Liberation Of... debuted at number 6 and was certified gold. Her single "Like Water" was certified platinum in June 2011. She has won many awards, including Best Female Solo Artist and Best Urban Hip Hop Album at the 2011 New Zealand Music Awards and Best Urban/Hip Hop Album at the 2009 New Zealand Music Awards. The current line-up of the wider Ladi6 group is Ladi6, her partner Parks and Julien Dyne.
Jamie McDell is a New Zealand musician and singer-songwriter. She was discovered at the age of 16 by EMI Music New Zealand after sending them a demo tape of her acoustic original music. Prior to being signed by a major record label, McDell used various social media outlets to gain exposure, posting YouTube videos – including original songs and cover songs, Twitter and Facebook to get her music out to the masses.
