Silvana Valente is an Italian paralympic cyclist who has represented Italy at the 2000 Summer Paralympics in the open tandem track events with her guide Fabrizio Di Somma. She also competed at the 1998 World Championships in Colorado Springs. She joined the Italian Paralympic committee in 2009 after other successes at mountain biking.
Valente was born blind and she is a physiotherapist. She was able to take up competitive track cycling due to an initiative in the city of Vicenza. She competed at the world paralympic event in 1998 and travelled to Sydney in 2000 to attend the Paralympic Games. She and her tandem partner, Fabrizio Di Somma. took the silver medal in the pursuit as well to other bronze medals. [1]
Valente won numerous Italian national competitions before taking up mountain biking where she was again successful. In 2009 she joined the Italian Paralympic committee. She has published two books of poetry. [2]
Gerda Weissensteiner OMRI is an Italian luger and bobsleigh pilot who competed from the late 1980s to 2006. Competing in six Winter Olympics, she won the gold medal in the women's singles luge event at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, and together with Jennifer Isacco she won the bronze in Turin in the two-woman bobsleigh at the 2006 Winter Olympics. She was the first Italian sportsperson to win Olympic medals in two disciplines.
Kieran John Modra was an Australian Paralympic swimmer and tandem cyclist. He won five gold and five bronze medals at eight Paralympic Games from 1988 to 2016, along with two silver medals at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Dame Sarah Joanne Storey, is a British Paralympic athlete in cycling and swimming, and a multiple gold medalist in the Paralympic Games, and six times British (able-bodied) national track champion. Her total of 28 Paralympic medals including 17 gold medals makes her the most successful and most decorated British Paralympian of all time as well as one of the most decorated Paralympic athletes of all time. She has the unique distinction of winning five gold medals in Paralympics before turning 19.
Kerry Joan Modra is an Australian Paralympic tandem cycling pilot. She was born in the New South Wales city of Nowra. She was introduced to Kieran Modra, a visually impaired cyclist, at a friend's 21st birthday party. He convinced her to take up cycling; she had only played netball before then. She became Modra's pilot, and six months later, she won a gold medal with him at the 1996 Atlanta Games in the Mixed 200 m Sprint Tandem open event, for which she received a Medal of the Order of Australia.
Lindy Hou, is an Australian tandem cyclist and triathlete from Hong Kong. Arriving in Australia with her family in 1974, she was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa in the mid-1980s and became legally blind in 1996. She has won six medals at the 2004 and 2008 Summer Paralympics.
Jessica Gallagher is an Australian Paralympic alpine skier, track and field athlete, tandem cyclist and rower. She was Australia's second female Winter Paralympian, and the first Australian woman to win a medal at the Winter Paralympics at the 2010 Vancouver Games. She competed at the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, where she won a bronze medal in the Women's Giant Slalom Visually Impaired.
Stephanie Morton, is a retired Australian track cyclist. She has won national and international cycling titles, and was Felicity Johnson's tandem pilot at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, where she won a gold medal.
Alexandra Lisney is an Australian rower and cyclist. She won a bronze medal in the Women's Individual Pursuit C4 at the 2012 Summer Paralympics. She represented Australian at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.
Scott Matthew McPhee, is an Australian cyclist, who piloted Kieran Modra in tandem cycling. He won a gold medal with Modra at the 2012 London Paralympics.
Neil Michael Fachie is a Scottish Paralympic multiple sports athlete competing in events for individuals with a visual impairment. Fachie has entered two Paralympics, as a sprinter in the 2008 Games in Beijing and as a tandem cyclist in London 2012. In London he won the gold medal in the Men's individual 1 km time trial and silver in the individual sprint, both with Barney Storey as his sighted pilot.
Helen Sarah Scott, is an English sprint cyclist. As well as competing as part of the Great Britain team Scott is also an able-bodied tandem cyclist, who since 2011 has acted as pilot for Paralympian Aileen McGlynn, Sophie Thornhill and Alison Patrick.
Raquel Acinas Poncelas is a Spanish cyclist who has represented Spain at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Paralympics in both road and track events. She also competed at the 2013 World Championships.
Madison Janssen is an Australian cyclist. She is a world champion, multiple national champion and a world record holder. In May 2016 she was named as part of the Australian cycling team as the sighted pilot for Jessica Gallagher for the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio, where they won a bronze medal in the Women's 1000m time trial.
Lora Marie Fachie, is a visually impaired English racing cyclist who competes in para-cycling tandem road and track events. She is a double world champion, with pilot Corrine Hall, in the tandem road race and 1 km time trial events.
Cycling at the 2020 Summer Paralympics took place in two separate locations. Track cycling took place at the Izu Velodrome from 25 to 28 August 2021 and road cycling took place on the Fuji Speedway from 31 August to 3 September 2021.
Jamie Whitmore Cardenas is a former American triathlete turned para-cyclist. Whitmore began her sports career competing in the XTERRA Triathlon throughout the 2000s. As a XTERRA triathlete, she won over thirty events and was the XTERRA world champion in 2004. After being diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma in 2008, Whitmore moved to para-cycling in the 2010s and competed in championships held by the Union Cycliste Internationale.
Italy competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, from 24 August to 5 September 2021. This was their sixteenth consecutive appearance at the Summer Paralympics since 1960.
Julie Cournoyer is a Canadian visually impaired former para-cyclist who competed in the Paralympic Games and the IPC Cycling World Championships. She won two gold medals at the 1996 Summer Paralympics in Atlanta, United States and won a silver and bronze medal at each of the former multi-sport event and at the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney, Australia, Cournoyer won a single silver and bronze medal each at the 1998 IPC Cycling World Championships in Colorado Springs, United States. She had Guylaine Larouche, Alexandre Cloutier and Christophe Cheseaux as guides throughout her career.
Mathilde Hupin-Debeurme is a Canadian orthopaedic surgeon and former cyclist who competed in cross-country, mountain, road, and track events. She had competed in national and international cycling such as the Canada Summer Games, the UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships, the La Coupe du Monde Cycliste Féminine de Montréal, the Tour du Grand Montréal and the Summer Paralympic Games. Hupin won a bronze medal in the Women's Road Individual Road Race in the B VI 1–3 as part of the Canadian delegation at the 2008 Beijing Summer Paralympics, acting as the visual guide for the blind cyclist Genevieve Ouellet. She works as an orthopaedic surgeon at the Centre hospitalier universitaire Sainte-Justine and is a professor at the Université de Montréal Faculty of Medicine.
