Simon C. Page is a British graphic designer based in London. He is most known for creating geometric graphic designs. He created promotional posters for the International Year of Astronomy [1] and for the International Year of Chemistry. [2]

Early life and education

Page was born and raised in the United Kingdom. According to Page, he was interested in graphic design since he was a child. However, after school he felt that he was more interested in Applied Mathematics and pursued a degree in that discipline. [4] He holds a degree in Applied Mathematics from Queen Mary University of London. [1]

Career

After completing his education, Page joined a property company in a finance position and later got involved in programming and database development. There, he had to create corporate presentations that got him involved in graphic design. [4] In 2007, he participated in a poster design competition that he won. [5]

Towards the end of 2009, Page learned that 2009 was the International Year of Astronomy and designed several posters as a personal project. When the International Year of Astronomy organization saw the posters, they contacted page to seek permission to use them. He granted the permission and the posters were used in promotional events. [6]

In 2011, he designed 10 posters for the International Year of Chemistry. [7] These posters were later used by the International Year of Chemistry in an official capacity. [8] Each of the posters was inspired by a prominent person in the field of chemistry. He designed a poster inspired by Marie Curie's work, which was used to promote a screening of a film about her life. [2] The International Year of Chemistry also offered the poster prints on their website. [2]

As of 2009, Page creates logos, designs and editorial illustrations for organisations [7] and sells prints on his website. [9] He has also worked on designing T-shirts. [4] In May 2012 Simon created his first furniture designs with the launch of his Cuben Space Io Armchair [10] and new wallpaper that was displayed at the International Contemporary Furniture Fare in 2012. [11]

Page's International Year of Astronomy posters were featured in The New York Times Style Magazine that wrote "The result is a beautiful exercise in conceptual minimalism, with a clear geometric bent that betrays Page’s math-nerd origins" [1] and Wired wrote about the posters, "with today’s artists’ renderings of space becoming increasingly detailed, realistic and flashy, these posters truly stand out." [12]

The New York Times Style Magazine also featured the posters page created for International Year of Chemistry and wrote, "in an excessively cluttered aesthetic environment, Page practices the elegantly reductive, Swiss and Bauhaus-influenced design that he believes appeals to the scientific and non-scientific communities." [2]

Fiorella Terenzi Italian astrophysicist, musician

Fiorella Terenzi is an Italian-born astrophysicist, author and recording artist who is best known for taking recordings of radio waves from far-away galaxies and turning them into music. She received her doctorate from the University of Milan but is currently based in the United States.

Jon Lomberg is an American space artist and science journalist. He was Carl Sagan's principal artistic collaborator for more than twenty years on many projects from 1972 through 1996. In 1998, the International Astronomical Union officially named an asteroid in recognition of his achievements in science communication.

Marianne Straub

Tacoma Science and Math Institute, is a public high school in the Tacoma Public Schools district. It is located in Metro Parks Tacoma in Tacoma, Washington. The school offers an integrated inquiry-based curriculum for students in grades 9-12 that combines the arts, science, math, and environmental and marine studies. It operates in partnership with local organizations, including the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium as well as local universities. SAMi also operates in partnership with other local schools, including its sister schools Tacoma School of the Arts (SOTA) and Industrial Design Engineering and Art (iDEA).

Albert Kai-Wing Ng, is a prominent graphic designer who lives and works in the Greater Toronto Area in Ontario, Canada. He is known as the "Father of Canadian graphic design accreditation" and is currently an adjunct professor at York University.

Kahn Design

Kahn Design is a British-based company that specialises in the modification of motor vehicles. Founded by Afzal Kahn, the company has its headquarters in Bradford and showrooms in both Chelsea and Kensington in London.

The College of Science, Mathematics and Technology was the science college of the former (1992-2015) University of Texas at Brownsville. It consisted of six academic departments. The six departments employ diverse faculty members - many of whom are leading experts in the fields - who have received funding from a variety of funding agencies, including the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Education and the Department of Defense, among others. The average active ongoing external funding is about 25-30 million dollars. In 2002 the Center for Gravitational Wave Astronomy (CGWA) research center was founded to help "develop excellence in research and education in areas related to gravitational wave astronomy."

Hans Rudi Erdt German graphic designer

Hans Rudi Erdt was a German graphic designer, lithographer and commercial artist known for his contributions to the Sachplakat movement created by Lucian Bernhard. His work at the prestigious Hollerbaum und Schmidt art printing company along with Edmund Edel, Hans Lindenstadt, Julius Klinger, Julius Gipkens, Paul Scheurich and Karl Schulpig make him one of the most important representatives of German poster art between 1906 and 1918. Erdt has also been recognized for his innovative use of typography in posters.

Todd Slater

Todd Slater is an American poster artist who specializes in concert posters for indie and mainstream rock musicians. The many acts for whom he has produced posters include Jack White, Widespread Panic, Ween, Avett Brothers, Pearl Jam, Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Dave Matthews, Black Keys, Primus, Muse, and Neil Young. He also produces film posters for the specialist Mondo Gallery in Austin, Texas, USA.

The selection process for Mission 13 and 14 of the Discovery program began in February 2014, as NASA drafted an Announcement of Opportunity (AO) for the next Discovery mission. The winning mission proposals received $450 million in funding towards mission development and construction, along with bonus funding if missions were able to incorporate certain technologies. For Discovery Mission 13 and 14, NASA received 28 proposals, 16 of which notably centered around small Solar System bodies. Lucy, a multiple-flyby mission to the Jupiter trojans, and Psyche, a mission to the metallic asteroid 16 Psyche, were announced as the winners of the competition in January 2017, with launches in October 2021 and October 2023, respectively.

Nontsikelelo Mutiti is a graphic designer and educator. Her work focuses on web design, video, print, and book art. She often includes hair braiding in her design work, and is "interested in the nuanced differences between black cultures". Her work includes printed materials for Black Lives Matter.
