Vavaʻu is an island group, consisting of one large island and 40 smaller ones, in Tonga. It is part of Vavaʻu District, which includes several other individual islands. According to tradition, the Maui god created both Tongatapu and Vavaʻu, but put a little more effort into the former. Vavaʻu rises 204 m (669 ft) above sea level at Mount Talau. The capital is Neiafu, situated at the Port of Refuge.

Tangaki Taulupe Faletau, commonly known as Toby Faletau but professionally as Taulupe Faletau, is a Welsh professional rugby union player for Cardiff Rugby in the United Rugby Championship and has represented the Wales national team for over 10 years. The back row forward played for Cross Keys RFC, Newport RFC and Newport Gwent Dragons in Wales before joining Bath in England in 2016. He joined present club Cardiff in 2022.

Sione Vaiomounga is a Tongan rugby union footballer. He currently plays back-row in which position he represented Tonga at the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. Sione made his debut for the national side on 28 November 2009, where he opened his scoring count with a try against Portugal. Sione played for Toloa Old Boys, and he was the only player to be picked in Tonga's 30-man squad for the 2011 World Cup who played in Tonga's domestic division.
