Sizwe Nxasana (born 7 August 1957 - Newcastle, KZN) is a South African business executive, educator & chartered accountant.
He is the founder and CEO of Future Nation Schools and Sifiso Learning Group. He is the chairman of Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme (ISFAP) which funds and supports students pursuing occupations in critical skills from ’missing middle’ backgrounds. Nxasana was the CEO of the FirstRand Banking Group for 10 years and before that the CEO of Telkom SA for 8 years.
He is the director of the Solidarity Fund and chairs the Fundraising Committee. Sizwe is also a member of South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
He founded Sizwe & Co, KwaZulu-Natal’s first black audit firm, in 1989, and in 1996 he became the founding partner of Nkonki Sizwe Ntsaluba, now SizweNtsalubaGobodo (SNG Grant Thornton). He is the co-founder and chairman of the National Education Collaboration Trust (NECT) as a response to the call by the National Development Plan (NDP) for increased collaboration among stakeholders to improve educational outcomes. He was the chairperson of NSFAS between 2015 and 2018.
Mr Nxasana is one of the founding members of the Association for the Advancement of Black Accountants (ABASA) and served as its initial chairperson of its KwaZulu-Natal Branch as well as the organisations president from 1995 until 1998.
Nxasana was cited as one of the Top 100 most influential Africans by New African magazine in 2016. [1]
He holds a BCom Accounting degree from the University of Fort Hare and a BCom Accounting Science honours degree from the University of South Africa (UNISA) and was one of the first 10 African CA's in South Africa. He also holds a post graduate certificate in education from UNISA.
Sizwe Nxasana has been conferred with honorary doctorates by the Universities of Fort Hare, the Durban University of Technology, the University of Johannesburg and the Walter Sisulu University.
He is married to Dr Judy Dlamini and they have two children. Their son, Sfiso, is deceased.

Zwelini Lawrence Mkhize is a South African medical doctor and politician who served as the Minister of Health from May 2019 until his resignation on 5 August 2021. He previously served as the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs from 2018 to 2019. Before that, he was the fifth Premier of KwaZulu-Natal from 2009 to 2013.
There have been many political assassinations in post-apartheid South Africa. In 2013 it was reported that there had been more than 450 political assassinations in the province of KwaZulu-Natal since the end of apartheid in 1994. In July 2013 the Daily Maverick reported that there had been "59 political murders in the last five years". In August 2016 it was reported that there had been at least twenty political assassinations in the run up to the local government elections on the 3rd of August that year, most of them in KwaZulu-Natal.
Mxolisi Sandile Oliver Nxasana was the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) in South Africa, the head of the National Prosecuting Authority. In August 2013 he was appointed NDPP by President Jacob Zuma effective from 1 October 2013. After a protracted enquiry into his fitness to hold office, Nxasana agreed to step down from his position as NDPP on 31 May 2015, effective from 1 June 2015.
Nonkululeko Gobodo became the first black female Chartered Accountant in South Africa in 1987. In 2023 she was appointed Chancellor of Walter Sisulu University.
Selby Mvusi (1929–1967) was a South African artist. He was born in Richmond, KwaZulu-Natal, on 18 June 1929. In 1961 he took a post at Clarke College, Atlanta, Georgia. He died in a car crash near Nairobi, Kenya, on 10 December 1967. In 2015 Elza Miles wrote a biography of Mvusi, called Selby Mvusi: To Fly with the North Bird South.
Zwakele Maxwell Mncwango is a South African politician who is the provincial chairperson of ActionSA in KwaZulu-Natal. He was a Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature from 2018 to 2022 and served as the Leader of the Opposition in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature from 2018 to 2019. He was the Provincial Leader of the KwaZulu-Natal Democratic Alliance (DA) from 2015 to 2021. Mncwango was the party's KwaZulu-Natal Premier candidate for the 2019 election.
Priscillah Mabelane is a South African chartered accountant. She is known to be the first woman in the history of South Africa’s oil industry to head a multi-national company. In August 2017, she was appointed the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of BP Southern Africa (BPSA), making her the first female to hold such a position. She is currently the Executive Vice President: Energy Business of Sasol, since 1 September 2020.
Mervyn Alexander Dirks is a South African politician who served as a Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature from June 2023 until February 2024. A former member of the African National Congress, he previously served as a member of the National Assembly from May 2014 to January 2023.
Nomusa Dube-Ncube is a South African politician and former diplomat who was the 9th Premier of KwaZulu-Natal from August 2022 to June 2024. A member of the African National Congress, she is the first woman to hold the office. She was succeeded by Thami Ntuli.
Muntukayise Bhekuyise Ntuli was a South African politician. A member of the African National Congress, he served as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from 1999 to 2003, when he resigned amid fraud allegations. He was then elected to the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature in 2009. On 11 September 2019, Ntuli became the Member of the Executive Council for Transport, Community Safety & Liaison, replacing Mxolisi Kaunda, who was elected Mayor of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality. Ntuli died on 16 January 2021, from complications of COVID-19.
Thomas Kgokolo is a South African chartered accountant, businessman, and corporate executive. He was appointed the interim CEO of South African Airways, the national airline company of South Africa, effective 13 April 2021.
Njabulo Bheka Nzuza is a South African politician from KwaZulu-Natal currently serving as Deputy Minister of Home Affairs. He has been a Member of Parliament since 2019. Nzuza is a member of the African National Congress.
Vusumuzi Cyril Xaba is a South African politician and a former Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from 2019 to 2024. He served as Co-Chairperson of the Joint Standing Committee on Defence and as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans. A member of the African National Congress, he previously served in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature from 1994 to 2009 and from 2014 to 2019. He was the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development from 2014 to 2016. Cyril Xaba was elected as mayor the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, which contains the city of Durban, following the resignation of former mayor Mxolisi Kaunda.
