David "Skip" Storch (born c. 1957) is an American swimmer.

On August 29, 2007, 50-year-old Storch swam a record-breaking 85.5 miles unassisted continuous triple lap swim around Manhattan Island, completing the swim in 32 hours and 52 minutes, [1] breaking two recognized records and qualifying him for an ESPN ESPY Award. Storch did not stop swimming but did stop river boat traffic. He was nominated for an ESPN ESPY award, "Best Outdoor Sportsman", [2] for this achievement in 2008. Storch lives and works in Nanuet, New York, at his own Tackle and Fly shop called SHU-Fly. [3]

He is the assistant swimming coach at Ramapo College in Mahwah, New Jersey, and trains at LifePlex pool in Monsey, New York. Skip has done numerous other marathon swims [4] in Open Water Swimming. Skip is also known for his environmental work creating awareness of pollution in the Hudson River and other waterways. [5]

In 2017, Storch was charged with predatory sexual assault against a child. [6] During their investigation, authorities said they learned Storch had committed sexual acts with a child under 13. [7] In 2018 Storch pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 7 years in prison, with 15 years of probation, and will be on the New York State Sex Offender Registry. [8]

The Best Outdoor Sportsman ESPY Award was an annual award honoring the achievements of an athlete from the world of outdoor sports —understood as those related to outdoor recreation and nature-based occupation, including sport fishing, most especially of bass, and lumberjacking, most especially the logrolling, wood chopping, and high-climbing disciplines thereof—on an amateur or professional level primarily in the United States or Canada. It was first presented as part of the ESPY Awards at the 2002 edition after broadcaster ESPN purchased the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society in mid-2001. The Archdiocese of Boston sex abuse scandal was part of a series of Catholic Church sexual abuse cases in the United States that revealed widespread crimes in the American Catholic Church. In early 2002, TheBoston Globe published results of an investigation that led to the criminal prosecutions of five Roman Catholic priests and thrust the sexual abuse of minors by Catholic clergy into the national spotlight. Another accused priest who was involved in the Spotlight scandal also pleaded guilty. The Globe's coverage encouraged other victims to come forward with allegations of abuse, resulting in numerous lawsuits and 249 criminal cases.

Three members of the gang received significant prison sentences, including ringleader Marie Black, who was jailed for life. Black's sentence made her "one of the UK's most notorious paedophiles."

Richard Arthur Caine, (Kearney) was an Australian swimming coach and convicted pedophile. He was the head coach at Carss Park swimming pool in Sydney for more than 40 years until his retirement in 2018. In August 2024, he was convicted of 39 sexual offences committed against his female students in the 1970s and 1980s.
