The Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA; Somali : Ururka Suxufiyiinta Somaliland) is a media association for journalists in Somaliland, based in Hargeisa. SOLJA is a nonprofit organization made by journalists working in the media industry of Somaliland. [1] The association promotes the role of a free media in Somaliland society, and protects the rights of journalists in Somaliland. [2] It was founded on June 2003. [3]
Somaliland, officially the Republic of Somaliland, is an unrecognised state in the Horn of Africa, recognised internationally as de jure part of Somalia. It is located in the southern coast of the Gulf of Aden and bordered by Djibouti to the northwest, Ethiopia to the south and west, and Somalia to the east. Dahir Riyale Kahin is a Somaliland politician who was President of Somaliland from 2002 to 2010. He previously served as a senior officer in the National Security Service in Somalia, and he was Vice President of Somaliland from 1997 to 2002.
The Justice and Welfare Party, sometimes translated as the Justice and Welfare Association, is the oldest political party in Somaliland. The party tends to be supported by people from the Garhajis clan and some sub-clans of the Dir.

Ahmed Hassan Awke was a veteran Somali journalist, who spent most of his life in the media industry. Awke is often considered to be one of the best Somali journalists because of his very linguistic eloquence, and was often used as a favorite commentator. He served as a special reporter for Somalia's late president Siad Barre until it collapsed in 1991. He hailed from the Jibril Abokor, a Sa'ad Musa sub-division of the Habr Awal Isaaq clan that predominately inhabits the Gabiley region.
Sulayman Yusuf Ali (Koore) (Somali: Saleebaan Yuusuf Cali Koore) is a Somali politician and former military officer who is presently serving as Somaliland's Minister of Information and National Guidance.President Muse Bihi Abdi appointed Koore as Minister of Water Resources for Somaliland in 2017. Koore also served as Minister of Agriculture under President Egal's administration and also thirteen years as a member of parliament of Somaliland.
