Some By Sea was an orchestral indie rock band from Tacoma, Washington. They have received comparisons to many bands, including Death Cab for Cutie [1] and Arcade Fire. [2]

History

Some By Sea originally formed as the solo project of Chris Du Bray in 2002. [3] His solo act grew with the induction of Eino Holm. In January 2003 Rachel Lee Bowman played her first show with the group, and allowed the band to expand and develop new material. After meeting at a local show, Daniel Disparte (on drums) and David Bilbrey (on bass) joined the outfit in October 2003 and solidified the line-up. Eino Holm left the group in November 2004. David Bilbrey decided to start playing guitar. Blake Johnston joined as the new bass player in January 2005. Some By Sea signed with Sidecho Records in summer 2005. Blake quit in December 2005 and was replaced by Tom Pearson. Following the release of On Fire! (igloo) on March 7, 2006, Tom Pearson & Daniel Disparte chose to leave the group (April 2006) to pursue other interests. From April 2006 and August 2006 Some By Sea played their remaining shows with Lee Haines, AJ Gard and other friends.

The band released their debut album, Get Off the Ground If You're Scared, in January 2004, on their own label, Kringle Recordings. Get Off the Ground If You're Scared was performed by Chris Du Bray, Eino Holm and Rachel Lee Bowman and recorded by an independent producer in June 2003. After touring for their debut album, Some By Sea returned to the studio to record new material. Some of this material was released on their The Saddest Christmas EP, also on Kringle Recordings.

In 2005, Some By Sea signed with SideCho Records. The following spring (March 7, 2006), the band released their second LP, On Fire: Igloo, which received positive reviews. [4] [5] [6] After their tour in support of their latest album, Some By Sea announced they would be disbanding. [7] Their final show was played to a full room at Hell's Kitchen in Tacoma on August 11, 2006 with Cavalier, Tex & Speaker Speaker. Chris DuBray later spoke about the break-up in an interview for his next band, Ghosts & Liars:

"It was more of a series of frustrating circumstances that lead me to decide I couldn't take it much longer. When we returned from our first On Fire! (Igloo) tour in April of 2006, we'd all stopped communicating to each other in any way that wasn't passive aggressive... Nothing that occurred from that point on ever felt 100 percent honest and healthy."

Gravenhurst was the musical pseudonym of the English singer-songwriter, record producer, multi-instrumentalist and journalist Nicholas John Talbot. Talbot, from Bristol, England, signed to Warp Records. He died aged 37. His cause of death is undisclosed.

So They Say is an American rock band based in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. They released their self-titled debut EP in 2005. Shortly after, in 2006, they released their debut studio album, Antidote for Irony on Fearless Records. They recorded the follow-up album, Life In Surveillance with Matt Hyde, released on October 9, 2007. So They Say appeared on Warped Tour 2007, 2006 and one week on Warped Tour 2005. In April 2008 the band decided to take some time off to pursue other musical tastes. Justin Hanson is currently playing drums in the band 3TEETH, Nicholas Walters is currently working in the music industry. David and Joseph went on to play in a band called Me Verse You. In late 2010, David and Joseph put out a statement saying: "After taking some time off to clear our heads, and pursue various musical projects, Dave and I have realized when we were listening to our newest batch of demos that it was So They Say." The band then added Cory Laneman on drums, and Alex Wilkinson on lead guitar.

Vietnam (band)

Vietnam is a rock, post-punk and new wave band from Atlanta, Georgia on Scared Records. Vietnam first appeared at the dawn of a new decade—the 80's, and ushered in a fresh era of music to the Atlanta new wave scene. Embraced by the early 80's cavalcade of Athens bands such as R.E.M., Pylon, Method Actors, Love Tractor, etc., Vietnam wowed the patrons of the legendary 688 club, 40 Watt club, and the Agora Ballroom. Their first performance was opening for Public Image Ltd. in April 1980, and the next year they played the Noise Fest in New York, appearing on the ZG compilation release of the same name along with Sonic Youth, Glenn Branca, Y Pants and others. They released their first full-length album on Scared Records in 2004, Past Away.

"Freewill" is the second track on the 1980 album Permanent Waves by Canadian progressive rock band Rush. The song's music was composed by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, and its lyrics written by Neil Peart. In a 2016 review of Rush discography for Ultimate Classic Rock, Eduardo Rivadavia described "Freewill" as a "cerebral but remarkably radio-friendly" song. Lee has stated that the final verse of "Freewill" is at the highest part of his vocal range.

Fake Problems were a four-piece indie rock band from Naples, Florida. They released their first full-length album, How Far Our Bodies Go, on Sabot Productions on April 27, 2007. Their second record, It's Great to Be Alive, was released through Side One Dummy Records on February 17, 2009. Their third record Real Ghosts Caught On Tape was released September 21, 2010, also on Sideonedummy. The band broke up in 2014.
