Someplace Else (Bengali: সামপ্লেস এল্স), [abbreviated as SPE] is a pub at the Park Street, Kolkata, India. The pub offers various kinds of drinks and food. It hosts live music every night. [1] [2] The pub hosts approximately nine hours of live music every day.

Kolkata is the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal. Located on the east bank of the Hooghly River approximately 75 kilometres (47 mi) west of the border with Bangladesh, it is the principal commercial, cultural, and educational centre of East India, while the Port of Kolkata is India's oldest operating port and its sole major riverine port. Someplace Else hosts live every day, with various kinds of music. Artists also perform with aspiring performers on stage. The pub is situated inside the Park Hotel and is regarded as a heritage spot of the city. The pub also offers drinks, lunch and dinner. Famous bands like Skinny Alley, Hip Pocket, Lou Majaw, Prestorika, Parikrama, Indian Ocean, Krosswindz, Underground Authority, Them Clones and international bands have also performed in the pub.

Open mic sessions

Open mic sessions are held once a month where any band/artist can perform. It usually starts from 18:00 and ends at 21:00. Many school bands get an opportunity to show their talent at open mic sessions. The session is not restricted to musicians alone but also includes original poetry, stand-up comedy, mime and solo acting. For good performance the band/artist may become one of the regulars at Someplace Else. [3]

South Point School (SPS) or South Point High School (SPHS) is a co-educational private day school located in Kolkata, West Bengal. The school opened in the year, 1954 and introduced higher secondary level in 1960. The school split into two buildings with the high school shifting to Ballygunge Place in 1980.

Insomnia was a rock band based in Kolkata, West Bengal. The band's repertoire included both English and Bengali songs. The band has an album each in English and Bengali. Insomnia were also quite adept at executing live music for theatre, being part of the act itself, in plays such as Peacewards, a 3rd theatre version of Rokto Korobi and numerous other plays. "Opekkha" from their Bengali album Proloyer Shomoye was part of the original soundtrack of the first Bengali sex comedy movie Aamra.

Five Little Indians, was an alternative rock band based in Kolkata. The band was formed in January 2007. Five Little Indians merged melodic rock and a heavier sound with singer-songwriter sensibilities. The band used Hindustani classical vocals and often mixed ragas with a rock sound.

Cassini's Division are an Alternative Rock band from Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Formed in 2001, they are named after the Cassini Division, the largest gap in the Rings of Saturn.

Underground Authority is an alternative rock / rap rock band from India. Formed in early 2010, in Kolkata, their music is flavoured by a blend of protest poetry, reggae, alternative rock, rap rock and hard rock. The band is noted for their socio-political messages / Anti-capitalism agenda in their song lyrics and also for their Music to express and not impress quote.

Lakkhichhara is a rock band, based in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The band was formed in 1999. This band initially started playing professionally in college fests, hotels and pubs. In 2001 they recorded their debut album. The album was not commercially successful but some major hits like "Care Korina" and "Shudhu Chai Tomay" were featured on radio channels in Kolkata. In December 2001, the lead vocalist Sayak Bandopadhyay left the band. Subhajit Mukherjee joined the band after he met the band in a school fest, and showed interest in working with them. In 2003 they recorded their second studio album - Jibon Chaichhe Aro Besi. In 2004, Rishabh Ray joined the band and later recorded a new album in 2005 named Eka, the album was a huge success. Lead guitarist Nilanjan, departed for personal commitments, and was replaced by Bua soon after. He rejoined the band in 2012 as Sujay bid goodbye. Subhajit shifted to Mumbai to try the possibilities in the national scene which paved way for Sayak to rejoin the band. They have now become one of the most sought after and highest paid Bengali bands of Kolkata. The members of the band appeared as judges on Hau Mau Khau - a game show on Zee Bangla TV, Band-E-Mataram, and "Rock Idols" along with numerous college fests. They are currently busy recording for their next album, which promises to be very interesting venture because that would contain some of the old but memorable songs that would be arranged and performed quite differently.

Carlton Kitto was a bebop jazz guitarist from Kolkata, India. He was born in Bangalore, where he started working in the railways in his early days. Kitto later started his music career in Chennai in the 1960s. He moved to Kolkata in 1973 and became a part of the band Jazz Ensemble in Moulin Rogue, an upscale restaurant in Park Street, Kolkata. After two years he started playing in another restaurant named Mocambo in the same locality. He was a teacher of jazz and classical guitar at the Calcutta School of Music and also performed in some of the restaurants and pubs, such as the Chowringhee Bar, Trincas, Blue Fox and Someplace Else in Kolkata."All that jazz". Rock music of West Bengal

Rock music of West Bengal originated in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The first known Bengali rock band, and India's first rock band, was Moheener Ghoraguli. In modern times, in this type of music distorted electric guitars, bass guitar, and drums are used, sometimes accompanied with pianos and keyboards. In early times the instruments used in modern times were also accompanied by saxophone, flute, violin and bass violin.
