Sonal Ambani is an Indian sculptor and author.

Biography

She is known for her 2004 book Mothers and Daughters, a photographic journal celebrating the mother-daughter relationship, which she wrote after losing her mother to cancer as a way of honoring her. [1] [2] Ambani mentored her children as they completed a sequel to Mothers and Daughters called Fathers and Sons, which was released in 2009. [3] Her sculptures have featured in many prominent exhibitions. During the Venice Art Biennale, the European Cultural Centre has showcased her sculptures "Slings and Arrows of Outrageous Fortune" in 2024 [4] and "Riderless World" in 2022. [5] Her sculpture series “We Dream Under The Same Sky” was shown by the Leila Heller Gallery at the DIFC Sculpture Park and at the gallery in Dubai. [6] [7] She has a patent for Systems and Method for providing Financial Services to Children and Teenagers. [8] She grew up in New York City. Her father's art gallery in New York had a significant influence on her. She played the double bass in an orchestra and a jazz ensemble. Her father taught her how to sculpt. She was a skilled equestrian show jumper. [9]

In 2010 she was named as the head of FICCI's ladies organization, FLO, in Ahmedabad. [10]

Notable artistic achievements

Ambani began sculpting across various mediums and styles. [11] Her work is part of the collections of many Indian art collectors and with collectors from Europe, the Middle East and the USA. Her work has been showcased at the Venice Art Biennale, [12] [5] Leila Heller Gallery, [13] DIFC Sculpture Park, [14] India Art Fair, The Bahrain Art Fair, [15] Ahmedabad Art Fair [16] and several art festivals and at galleries in India. In 2018, she was selected to be among 101 people to create a piece for the Elephant Parade in India. [17] Her stainless steel sculpture "The March of Time"  was chosen to be showcased and auctioned in Mayfair, London for the Concours d’éléphant Auction. A number of her  sculptures are  a part of the collection of the Royal Family of Bahrain. [18] Her sculptures have also been exhibited at the Habitat Centre and Jehangir Art Gallery after being selected by the Art Society of India. Her stainless steel elephant "Elegance in Steel", which was exhibited at the India Art Fair in 2015, found a home in Switzerland. A vineyard in Nashik has been named The Red Tree Vineyard after her towering 25 feet tall, majestic sculpture, "Tree of Serenity".

Ran Hwang is a sculptural artist primarily known for her mixed-media work with buttons, beads, pins, and thread. Born in Pusan, South Korea, in 1960 Hwang works and resides in New York and Seoul. She has exhibited internationally in Switzerland, France, Korea, Dubai, Singapore, and numerous other cities. Her work resides in the collections of museums such as the Brooklyn Museum, the Des Moines Art Center, The National Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul, and the King County Library. Her work will also be featured in the Brooklyn Museum show, "Diverse Works: Director's Choice 1997-2015".

Simryn Gill is a Singapore-born artist who specializes in sculpture, photography, drawing, printmaking, writing, and publishing. Throughout her career, Gill has presented her art at several significant events, including Germany's Documenta art show and the Venice Biennale, and is one of Australia's most famous contemporary artists. Gill lives between Sydney, Australia, and Port Dickson, Malaysia.

Anne Kahane was an Austrian-born Canadian artist. Best known for her figures carved in wood, Kahane began her career as a printmaker and commercial artist. In addition to her work as a sculptor using wood, brass, and aluminum, Kahane's artistic repertoire also included drawing and printmaking.

Lara Favaretto is an Italian artist. Favaretto lives and works in Turin, Italy.

Mari Katayama is a Japanese multimedia artist known for her sculpture and photography work. Her work focuses on themes such as body image, identity, and her experience as an amputee.

Andra Ursuța is a Romanian-American sculptor who has lived and worked in New York since 2000. Ursuța is known for her nihilistic portrayal of the human condition, confronting issues such as patriotism, violence against women, and the “expulsion of ethnic groups”. Ursuța's work is held in public collections worldwide.
