Sonia Patel is an American psychiatrist and author of young adult novels.

Biography

Patel is a first-generation Indian immigrant. [1]

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Stanford University and her medical degree from the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. [1]

Patel works in Hawai'i on the islands of Oahu and Molokai. She primarily works with young adults who exhibit "emotional issues with behavioral manifestations, gender and/or sexuality issues, abuse of all types, and/or family conflicts, to improve their self-worth, relationships, decision-making, and moods." [1] She also works with families to "resolve complicated family systems issues." [1]

She lives on the Hawaiian island of Oahu with her spouse, two children, and dog. [1]

The YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction, established in 2010, is an annual literary award presented by the Young Adult Library Services Association of the American Library Association that "honors the best nonfiction book published for young adults ". The American Library Association's Best Fiction for Young Adults, previously known as Best Books for Young Adults (1966–2010), is a recommendation list of books presented yearly by the YALSA division. Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults was an annual list of popular books geared toward young adult readers, collated by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), which was published from 1988 to 2017. The aim of the list was "to encourage young adults to read for pleasure by presenting to them lists of popular or topical titles which are widely available in paperback and which represent a broad variety of accessible themes and genres".
